| ajm (161), Los Angeles, California | | July 16, 2009 Better than Triple Rock. House beers seem comparable, they have 15 guest taps, and anything good from Trip gets a spot here anyway. Plus its bigger, has live music, and the arch/decor is just as cool. Sick burn. | | mrhoppy (57), Santa Clara, California | | June 29, 2009 Cool place. Worth a visit but wouldn’t seek it out again. Beers are pretty good they have guest beers but the food needs work. Service by college kids. | | italarican (10), Astoria , New York | | June 18, 2009 A wide selection of homebrews and a small selection of some nice beers (like Old Rasputin) bottled, draft, or nitro. For those that drink cider: they are incredibly inconsistent. My wife remembered them being dry (like she prefers), and hers was ridiculously sweet and tasted like a jolly rancher. Our waitress said that sometimes it comes out like that, and other times it’s dry. They also brought me the wrong beer on more than one occasion. Some of the homebrews are interesting, like the XHP. | | AgentSteve (62), SF Bay Area, California | | April 2, 2009 Cool Berkeley spot with good food, a decent tap list and a super cool shiny copper bar surface. | | rayOfBeer (15), El Cerrito, California | | September 19, 2008 Arrived around noon to a fairly empty restaurant. The restaurant itself is nice inside and out. The patio is spread out and has a nice fountain. The interior is a bit cramped but has multiple levels and gets rather noisy. As for the food, it’s decent with some wood fired pizzas and sandwiches during the day. They have many house beers on tap with a nice list of guest brews. My problem with the beer is that it comes out ice cold, making me wait for it to warm for flavor, and the house beer did not have much carbonation or head on it. There also seemed to be some oxidiized/off-flavors to the house and guest beer I tried since my reviews seem to have been significantly lower on both than the norm. The service was great however. Overall, I think I’ll visit again and hope they clear up some kegging issues, especially since I’ve been before without those issues. | ZazuH (5), Brentwood, California does not count - explanation | | September 7, 2008 The pizza and guest handles really make this place. Their house beers leave a lot to be desired. The patio is beautiful, but good luck finding seating in the summer! The upstairs is open air w/ a balcony overlooking the patio. Gets a little noisy and crowded, but it’s a fun atmosphere. Food selection is limited, but they put a lot of effort into what they serve. The heated Mediterranean olives are a unique treat and we loved the Odysseus pizza. Staff was friendly and helpful. Not the best place to take kids, though. | | ChillCoat (43), Concord, California | | February 4, 2008 Their house beers vary depending who is brewing them at the time. Great selection of guest handles. The food is awesome and there’s tons of seating. The patio rocks! | | Taverner (77), San Ramon, California | | January 13, 2008 The food is better than the beer - but the beer isn’t that bad. Excellent food, great salads and decent beers. Pretty noisy, but in the summertime check out the patio. | | bhensonb (287), Woodland, California | | November 11, 2007 The interior is very nice. The bar is attractive. Selection is pretty good. The house ESB and IPA are beautiful in their glasses. Unfortunately they didn’t drink very well. The atmosphere was a bit like a lager bar - drinks being pounded down. Staff was helpful in finding us a place on a crowded evening. Still, if you can only go to one place on Shattuck, go the three blocks to Triple Rock. The house beers there are just much more pleasing. | | Ibrew2or3 (161), Safety Harbor, Florida | | October 17, 2007 I love the brick exterior and the interior is really nice. This is a multi level establishment with patio seating outside. They had six to eight house brews offered as well as another dozen or so guest taps. I tried the E. J. Phair Old World Red served up in a big faceted tumbler type glass. Nice beer. I didn’t stay too long since it was loading up big time with campus folk for lunch. It was getting slammed. Also there were no tubes to pass the time taking in some sports. The house brews are pretty darn solid. I wish they bottled their beer. |
