RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
Petaluma has been known as the chicken capital of the world, the wrist wrestling capital of the world and birthplace to Winona Ryder. Petaluma’s only on our map because of the inventive, aggressive beers of Lagunitas.
This brewer, prone to hilarious and poetic labels, and beers named The Kronik, Maximus and Hairy Eyeball is impossible not to like. Throw big ABVs, bomber size bottles for packaging, and an eye for turning mistakes into very tasty beers (Brown Shugga) and Lagunitas becomes one of the most important stops on the Bay Area North beer tour.

| Braudog (441), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates | | April 10, 2008 [ Updated April 13, 2008 ] April 2008 We popped in on this industrial micro unannounced and at least an hour off their advertised tour timeline. But nonetheless, we were greeted with warm receptiveness and an impromptu short tour of their bulging-at-the-seems brewery. What a friendly crowd! An original micro, growing so much they’re stretching their waist size, but still living up to the small guy cool factor (What we wished Sierra Nevada was like). All the way nice. Lagunitas is now officially my default Fridge IPA. Way to go. On top of all that, they gave bikesanbeer a free carboy on the tour, how cool is that? Awesome. | mwsf (3), San Francisco, California does not count | | August 14, 2007 Their brewery tour is not to be missed. It’s a pretty typical mid-size brewery but they have a great tasting loft, they have been known to pull out some vintage stuff, they’re a great bunch of guys, and their singular focus is getting everyone on the tour smashed. Actually I’m not sure if that last bit is a positive or a negative but every time I’ve been there, I’ve had a blast. | | badlizard (64), San Diego, California | | August 1, 2007 Stephanie was great. Cool place to sit and drink. Good tour and some really good samples of beer. Hard to find, but definately worth a visit. | | Walt (184), Chicago, Illinois | | December 10, 2006 We got there about 2 minutes before they closed...they were cool and let us hang upstairs and have some beers....I don’t think I’d call it essential, but if you are on the way to Russian River from SF, it is worth a stop. | droopy49 (2), Lancaster, California does not count | | February 9, 2006 Me and a few buddies showed up to this place as stop 3 of 6 on a brewery tour of the North Bay. We had a pre-arraigned appointment so they were expecting us. The people there were great and showed us around the whole facility. Even got to smell some of the hops and talk to the guys on the conveyer line. The best part was the loft/lounge in there warehouse. We pulled up to the bar where we enjoyed several samples of their regular and seasonal ales. They were poured in plastic cups, but hey, they were free! Many of the brews we sampled were outstanding. Probably the coolest place we visited on our several stops in Sonoma and Marin counties. | | fly (163), austin, Tejas, | | August 22, 2005 Fun hanging out, meeting another guy at their tap room that was making a film and had babe w/ him. Tony is a genuinely nice guy. Funky atmosphere reminded me of beer dist. I where I once worked. | | Enniskillen (57), Port Angeles, Washington | | July 23, 2005 the tour was ok at best, weren’t very helpful. | | ericnixon (57), Lenox, Massachusetts | | June 14, 2005 I called ahead and the woman who answered the phone said to drop by anytime and they’d show me around. Seemed on the small side from the outside. Went into the office and a young woman who was watching the office brought me around on a quick (15 minute) tour. It started out in the loft of the main building which looked more like a college kid’s hangout than anything. We got to pick which Lagunitas beer we wanted to drink and then she took us on the tour. Pretty neat. | | Kinz (30), Glen Allen, Virginia | | February 15, 2004 I came wandering in, no appointment. I cleverly noted the brew tour hours noted at the top here, but not the fact reservations were needed. In any case, Nicole was kind enough to pour me a Hairy Eyeball and walk me around, even went to the trouble to write some directions to a local market for me, and gave me a couple of bottle cap magnets! Cool people, great beers. | View Page : 1 2
