Best dive bar ever. Large selection of beers with special attention on English and German brews. The bartender told me a month ago that they are in the process of exchanging 40 beers on the menu. Decor is awesome. Be careful driving to/from because of the hilly and winding roads. Wear casual clothes if you go so you don’t ruin the casual ambiance.

I went here this past weekend with grant. It is located in a small, small town off the beaten path in California. One must take very steep, narrow, windy roads to enter the town of Port Costa. Once there, you would never really know this was a bar...a beer bar nonetheless. The interior is dark and quite industrial (hence the name). There is crazy decor in this place...lots of old, random antiques, iron work, and taxidermy. There is a fucking huge stuffed polar bear in a glass case with a headless stuffed baby seal at its feet. BADASS. There are also massive round oak tables. Bathrooms are quite dingy and dirty. Clientele is mixed with some regulars, people there out of curiosity, and bikers. They only had pilsner urquell, downtown brown, and sierra nevada on tap. They have a huge beer menu, which would rival many beer stores. there are not any knockout or rare beers on the list, but the list is rather comprehensive and the prices can be crazy cheap. service was decent. beers served in mason jars. check it out...it’s something totally different.

A very odd place on the water in the tiny little community in Port Costa. Getting there involves many miles on winding, narrow roads. There is no sign I could see for the place, at least at night, so you kind of have to stumble upon it. On the other hand, downtown Port Costa is tiny. The decor inside is random, and rather bizarre. It includes a real, giant mounted polar bear standing up in a glass case, with a tiny beheaded seal laying at its feet and what appears to be a vestibule from an old hotel surrounding a table. Lots of other oddities. They claim to have 450 beers, but I don’t believe this. From the looks of the menu they probably have 150+ though, so a nice selection, and at very reasonable prices. The only beers I saw on tap were Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Pilsner Urquell and I believe Widmer Bros. Hefeweizen. Don’t expect proper glassware - as far as I can tell, everything is served in mason jars. The service was polite but slow, but most bars are slow on Wednesday nights. I didn’t sample the food, but the specialties are live lobster and steak, which can only be ordered on Friday or Saturday or with a large party. I believe they have bar food like sausages available at all times. Very cool, almost surreal. They have barbequed sandwiches available on Sundays, but I’ve heard it turns into kind of a biker bar on Sundays, if that’s not your thing.
