22 reviews for Yard House (San Diego)
| Dogbrick (218), Columbus, Ohio | | August 28, 2009 (Visited 09-2008): The downtown San Diego Yard House is located at the intersection of 4th and Broadway. There are pricey garages and parking lots nearby, and some street parking.
The interior is clean and spacious, with the wraparound bar right in the middle of the upper floor. There is a lower level as well that offers some interesting rooms full of kegs and other curiosities. The decor is abstract art with lots of dark colors and wood.
Yard House boasts a pretty large tap list, with goodies from Alaskan, Stone, Ballast Point, Bayhawk, Deschutes and others. The bottle selection is fairly robust as well. The beers are clearly displayed and well cared-for.
Service on a weeknight prior to a baseball game was good. The bartenders were efficient and one of them was quick to give me a replacement beer for one I felt had turned.
As for the food, my appetizers were presented well and tasted good, and were pretty cheap to boot thanks to happy hour.
Overall I would definitely stop in here again if I found myself downtown with a little time to kill. | | Headbanger (44), Aurora, Illinois | | December 17, 2008 The beer selection was pretty good for someone visiting from out of town but would of loved to have seen even more local brews. The music was a little loud for just general conversation. The service was great. Very attentive and patient. I thought the prices 6 bucks for a pint was a little steep but maybe all of downtown San Diego is that much. Had some appetizers which were pretty tasty but again a little pricey. | | DuffMan (96), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta | | December 9, 2008 People really crap all over this place in this forum! I had a very good experience. Wide selection of slightly upscale pub fare. Attentive service. Great range of beers on tap. I completely disagree with those who say there are no good beers here. There are several selections each of Alesmith and Lost Abbey and Port and Green Flash and Stone and Rogue just to name a few. Very good beers every one. Who gives a shit if you have already rated them. | | Beese (50), Watford, England | | September 6, 2008 Didn’t really care for the Yard House all that much, although they claim to have the biggest beer selection in America (or even the world) there didn’t seem to be that many hard to find brews and the price was high. The food was also expensive and not very good, service was ok, but not all that fast, I told the waitress I hadn’t finished looking through the beer list and she didn’t return for some time, it was quite busy, though. Not a great spot. | | RunDWP (11), San Jose, California | | August 11, 2008 [ Updated August 14, 2008 ] Have a lot of beer on tap, and reasonably good selection. I don’t quite understand all the negativitiy about the selection, had a lot to choose from, and most were good to great beer. Ok, so they had to have Miller Lite and Budwiser on tap. My bartender tried hard, and had a reasonably good knowledge about beer. Food was reasonably good, but a little pricey. Would consider going there again. | | DYCSoccer17 (187), Davis, California | | August 7, 2008 I checked this place out while waiting for my plane to leave. I had a few hours to kill and his is right off the 992 airport bus route. The interior was very spacious and very empty. There was like no one there. Huge oval bar with a shitload of taps, with most of them being macro or macro spawns. There were only 4 beers that I was interested in. Unfortunately, they didn’t even have the Alesmith Grand Cru on tap yet. They were waiting for the Ayinger Celebrator to kick. They also had St. Bernardus 12 on tap, which was like an oasis in the desert. The service was good and my bartender actually had decent knowledge of the beer. The menu was largely generic and vastly overpriced. I ordered some $13 appetizer of artichoke and seafood dip. Half the chips they gave me were broken into little pieces, so they compensated by grilling tortilla shells/quesadilla shells and putting those on the side as well. The bathrooms were down several flights of stairs, which has gotta be some sorta drinking hazard. Anyway, I guess this is the best place to kill time if you are waiting for a flight. Other than that, it’s not worth your time or money. | | DaSilky1 (45), San Diego, California | | August 7, 2008 You know what, fuck this place. This place is for those fucking tasteless, classless, professional types...who were too stupid growing up to be able to be cool and do well in school at the same time...so they wait until they are professionals to go out and get a life and by that time, they have no clue but are so embedded in retardedness that coolness couldn’t squeeze into their narrow little minds if coolness was a fucking $300 chef’s knife. This place has like 50 or 100 or some bullshit number of taps, ALL of which are mediocre beers. ALL OF THEM! The food is sub par try-to-impress-but-i-aint-a-real-chef type cuisine...the Service is completely pointless, they have no knowledge of fine beers whatsoever...and its expensive. Its a black hole of satanic fire! | | Snojerk321 (38), San Diego, California | | May 19, 2008 Like others on this list have said, if you’re looking for quantity not quality, than this is the place to be. A few good Belgian and German beers, nothing you couldn’t pick up at your local BevMo! Pretty hot wait staff, but not in the morning.......hahaha | | suddenlyissoon (13), Chattanooga, Tennessee | | May 2, 2008 This place has the world’s largest collection of draft beer. If anyone would like a picture of the menu, I took one...I was amazed. It’s a pretty upscale place (read: expensive) so don’t plan on wondering in while wearing a tshirt & jeans like I did (but they had just opened so what did they care). The bartenders were all sort of standoffish until my southern charm took hold and they opened up a bit. As others have said they do have some awful, terrible beers on tap, but for the most part they have an incredible selection. | IEBAILI (8), San Diego, California does not count - explanation | | December 3, 2007 I don’t know how they found a hundred bad and mediocre beers to fill this list. Don’t get me wrong, they have several good selections - but but the vast majority of the list is macro swill, pseudo craft beers or middle of the road imports.
When I ordered a cheeseburger medium rare, the bartender told me they couldn’t cook it less than medium, I said OK and it came out, much later, well done and dry. The skinny fries were good.
The place is big and clean and shiny and corporate. Lots of TV’s - if you don’t like sports you might find the ambiance closer to zero.
The bartenders offer variable service - from somewhat indifferent to moderately attentive.
This place might serve you well if your looking for ’something for everyone,’ but if your looking for good beer you’ll do better nearby at the Local or Downtown Johnny Brown’s. |
