| bernatbeer (65), barcelona, Spain | | October 9, 2011 Muy bonita la fabrica de anchor.Interesante hacer el tour para conocerla mas a fondo.Muy amables.Las cervezas q se toman allí perfectas. | notmarr2000 (7), Lawton, Oklahoma does not count - explanation | | August 31, 2011 I am very glad I booked a tour on my trip to San Francisco. The tour was informative and friendly. You get to see the brewing process in action, fermenting tanks at the basement level, and even the bottling line. I was very impressed with the causal family atmosphere among the employees. I expected a large "corporate" operation from a brewer that distributes around the world. I still can’t fathom how they brew enough beer to satisfy the demand. The beer sampling at the end was awesome and a lot of fun. I felt at home discussing beer with the guide. I left Anchor feeling mildly buzzed and happy and enjoyed a walk around the scenic area. | t0rin0 (6), La Verne, California does not count - explanation | | July 6, 2011 Never wanted to go through the trouble to schedule a tour months in advance but RBSG 2009 made it easy for me. The place is not open to the public (unless you sign up for the tour) so there isn’t a whole lot of "ambiance" to rate but between it being comfortable and private, and that Aussie girl that was working the bar it’s a cool place.
It’s hard to knock the selection too because while Anchor only makes a handfull of beers they’re pretty much all available at the bar, and for free after you do the tour.
No food here minus some pretzels and they dont let you bring in outside food but there was a taco truck right outside when I went. Worth a stop once. | | italarican (28), Astoria , New York | | December 28, 2010 It’s a thorough tour on the history of Anchor (which has a good story to it), the brewing process, and the specifics about each beer. You get a really good look at things (loved seeing the tubs of fermenting beer with all that yeast on top!). After that you get an hour of free tasting. It’s Anchor, so there’s only so many beers to try, but at least they’re good. It’s really good for a first time visit, but it’ll definitely be the same if you go a second time. | | nbutler11 (172), Phoenix, Arizona | | November 25, 2010 Nice building. Stopped by twice without realizing that this place only does tours and you have to book them 2 months out. At least put a sign up! I went back the second day and was greeted by a very snotty woman who seemed offended by the idea that they would have a tap room open to the public. Catch a clue! I don’t care if I get a happy ending on the tour -- I’m not going back. | | JaBier (68), Capital City, Ohio | | August 4, 2010 Stopped in for the tour the day the sale was final. Just missed Fritz and his wife doing their final walkthrough. Tour was informative and would be a great introduction to beer making for someone unfamiliar. Molly the tour guide knew her stuff and led a very engaging tour. Free tasting afterward was nice with samples of Summer, Steam, Liberty, Humming, Porter and Foghorn. A really cool old brewery with a nice tour. | | nickd717 (80), San Francisco, California | | July 23, 2010 Well I haven’t been back since good ol’ Fritz sold out, but based on when I was there, this is a solid place. Good brewery tour, fairly generic but educational for the ignorant. Lots of great beers on tap - the majority of Anchor’s small but high-quality lineup. Steam, Porter, Liberty, Old Foghorn, Small Beer, and Summer Beer were on tap I believe. I’m bummed I was too late to be able to buy a bottle of Our Barrel Ale, but fortunately I was able to tick that beer later. I can’t comment on prices since I was there as part of an event that was pre-paid. Staff is very friendly though. The neighborhood (Potrero Hill I think is what you’d call it) is not great, but this is an excellent San Francisco institution. Great feel to it. I’ll come back if they let me. | | JK81 (39), California | | July 20, 2010 Fun Lil tour and free beer to go with that, I been there one that all it takes never go back, beers were ok. Time pass. | | trampdaddy (43), California | | March 14, 2010 nice tour and the free pour after was sweet. then they cracked out the merchendise nice selection of shirts hats singhs all kinds of great anchor swag | | CheersMate (118), Fremont (Seattle), Washington | | March 11, 2010 I appreciate the tour. It was really cool. Lot’s of old pictures and memorabilia. Although, I already understand the brewing process (home brewer) it is cool to see this brewery in action. Not a very long tour, but longer than others that I have been on. Tried the humming ale after the tour. They have a tasting after the tour. I am sure you could get fairly buzzed while doing that. Nice old feel to it. Lots of history here. As far as an everyday drinking place where one would go and hang out, obviously this isn’t the place to go. I appreciated the tour, but after going once I ask myself "What the hell is the point going again?" Seeing the broken bottles almost made me cry. Honestly, I wish there was a way that I could get all of that wasted fucking beer, and drink for free. Tour guide was hot, but slightly bitchy. Meh...nice tour, but after you see it once, what’s the point? One amazing thing, free tour + free beer (no matter what size) = fucking awesome. |
