RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
Vinnie Cilurzo, the head brewer, is rumored to be a former brewing wunderkind from a winemaking family who held brewing competitions as a teenager. The trip to Russian River Brewing is half the fun. Enjoy the drive.

| caesar (111), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands | | September 30, 2008 Located in the boring town of Santa Rosa, but what a highlight this brewpub is! Decent food, great atmosphere and superb beer. Too bad they didn’t had any of the sour ales on tap: supplication just went dry, but the bartender managed to get a small sampler out of the tubes. Lots of nice people around. I had a great time at Russian River :-) | | fakepurseninja (33), Sammamish, Washington | | September 24, 2008 Probably the best brewpub I have ever had the chance to visit. Great atmosphere, awesome bar, stylish decorations, nice lighting, fun ambiance. Friendly staff that were attentive, knowledgeable, and really were enthusiastic about their product. Great pizza, great beer, what else can you say? This will be a must-visit for all my Bay Area trips in the future. Worth the drive north from SF. | illidurit (6), Santa Cruz, California does not count | | September 12, 2008 Attended during RR’s 4th anniversary party. The place was crowded, in fact the only available table had a ’Reserved’ note on it. However the waitress let us sit there anyway since the reservation wasn’t until about an hour and a half later. I ordered sample glasses of all the RR beers I hadn’t had before (about half the menu), and they were promptly delivered. Even the less-hyped beers from these guys are great. Parking Violation, Little White Lie, RR IPA, all very good. And they had Deviation on tap! What a treat! We ordered some pizza which was awesome. Despite the crowdedness, we never felt like we waited too long for anything. Standard bar food prices, i.e. on the pricey side for what you get, but not outrageous. We bought a couple t-shirts and left very satisfied before the table’s reservation showed up. | | Bhops (27), Dallas, Texas | | July 14, 2008 [ Updated July 28, 2008 ] This place was great. Twelve beers on tap and more available for purchase. And of course the beers are excellent. Food was really good too. Bartender was helpful and nice. Great experience and definitely a must if you are in north california. | Nik925 (8), California does not count | | July 9, 2008 [ Updated August 5, 2008 ] If you like beer, looking at their beer menu will sit you on your 8ss, possibly the best IPAs share one half of the beer menu with their other amazing beers, and then there is the other half of the beer menu, with all the Belgian style beers, absolutley amazing.
The pizza and salads are good too, but you go for the beer.
Reviewing comments, the staff knows their stuff..? everyone I ran into could tell me yeast, hop, aging, bottling info and of course they know about their pizzas.
Amazing place, its hour drive for me, but I never regret going.
Sunday is all day happy hour! Happy hour prices on Pliny the Elder and Younger and Blind pig, what else can you ask for? | | Hank1980 (33), Athens, Georgia | | July 6, 2008 [ Updated September 17, 2008 ] Excellent location in the middle of wine country. Great selection of RR brews. Pizza good as well. I tried the sampler and enjoyed many of the beers, lots of variation. This was a great value. There were 4 IPAs on the sampler and they all had plenty of differences. Staff was okay, not great - for a restaurant or brew pub. Ambiance was nice, with a great looking bar and aging barrels behind. | | Zinister (41), Houston, Texas | | June 4, 2008 Needless to say, an incredible selection of very good house beers for good prices. Food is very good for bar food, but they should step it up a notch considering the surrounding restaurants in the area. | | can8ianben (43), Pasadena, California | | May 16, 2008 Make the pilgrimage! What a wonderful change of pace from visiting wineries. INCREDIBLE beer on tap, and the prices are a steal for what you are getting. The sampler had 11 different beers and each one was an experience. The place was packed and thus the service was a little slow. We didn’t get any food, but people around us seemed to be enjoying theirs. | | CMUBEERMAN (36), Madison, Wisconsin | | May 12, 2008 Place is cool and laid back. Gets busy. Staff is pretty nice, but not always knowledgeable. Selection is always great, but don’t expect to see the craziest beers that we’re all looking for. Food is decent...but could be a little better considering the culinary emphasis of the region. | | joet (38), Fulton, California | | May 12, 2008 It’s the place to go for Russian River beers if you love them you have to live here. Not everything gets bottled. The food is good but limited to pizzas for the most part. The selection is limited to RR beers but still mostly awesome. Good music here as well. | View Page : 1 2 3 4 5 6
