| Glouglouburp (146), Montreal, Quebec | | January 6, 2009 Located in a Pilsen blue collar neighbourhood, definitely not on the tourist path. Huge place with spread out tables. Crowd of all ages from 20 to 60 year old. Anybody and everybody from the neighbourhood probably go there. Attempt at medieval decoration. Size-wise this is far from a little pub but it has the feeling of a coutryside “true” pub. Very friendly service. 2 taps Světlý 11° + 14°. Both beers disappointing with a total lack of hops. Food was ok. Nice for a meal and beer but not worth a detour just for the beer. | | Doggythedog (19), Split, Croatia | | August 5, 2008 Quite a big place as others have said, there was even a wedding celebration going on on the premises and it was everything but cramped. Can’t comment much about the staff but they got us our beers just fine. Not much decoration but still noticable (armor and stuff... goes with the name). Really liked their two beers for some reason. And as us Croats usually do in the Czech Republic, had a couple of laughs at some signs :). | | ogivlado (105), Zagreb, Croatia | | July 23, 2008 Few stops from the center by tram No. 4. Big place, more restaurant then pub, few big wooden tables in main room. Weired pictures of knights and ladies on the walls, also sword in the stone hinting to Excalibur. Two quite similar but good beers. While we were there, in another part of the building, smaller wedding was taking place. | | pivnizub (223), Porúří, Germany | | July 7, 2008 Modern spacious suburban restaurant with two own beers friendly service not a must in the Czech Republic, but worth a detour when You are in Pilsen. | | Ungstrup (209), Frederiksberg, Denmark | | July 5, 2008 A little way out of the center, but take tramline number 4 or a cab - we got one for 150 CZK. A modern classic place with stone floor, heavy wooden furniture, but some weird decoration. 2 own beers on of good quality. Fast service with a good understanding of english. Make a detour here to get the two beers. | | gnoff (81), Göteborg, Sweden | | August 12, 2007 Was some problems getting there since the machine selling tram tickets didn’t accept 10 kcz coins where I was, so took a shot and rode the tram without paying. Then when I was taking the bus back you couldn’t pay the driver, so had to ride back for free also. Wasn’t caught though. Selected a chair in the inner room where there were less smoke since I was only joined by two others at the moment. Didn’t stay for any food. Good beers, worth checking out for sure! Had to wait for the waitor that spoke English, but he did come rather soon after I asked for him every time. Though try and find tickets for the trams and busses well ahead first... | | MartinT (304), Montreal, Quebec | | August 8, 2005 [ Updated May 4, 2008 ] Nice modern restaurant building with high ceilings and expansive rooms. Their two beers aren’t outstanding, but might be worth a pint. It is a sightless 40-minute walk from Plzen downtown, so you might want to take tram number 4 to get there in a couple minutes instead. There is a small terrace at the first level where there are squash courts. Beer was reasonably priced at 24Kc for 0,5L. Service was friendly and English was spoken. | | mullet (118), Melbourne, Australia | | June 28, 2005 It’s a lot longer walk from the city than it appears! Interesting place to drink - only the pilsner (of the house beers) was available when we were there. The beer was quite different for a pilsner, though nice. Just when we were getting settled we got rushed out of the place - dunno why because one table was able to stay and eat, which was exactly what we wanted to do. Odd. | | motelpogo (17), Plzen, Czech Republic | | December 17, 2004 they have the best pilsner going in pilsen at the moment which is a good effort. modern interior, spacious, nice outdoor seating when the wind isn’t blowing the wrong way from the toilets. also has a squash centre in case you need to work up a thirst. not the liveliest place but there are always bored old guys sitting around just aching to chat with a tourist and display their english vocabulary of five words, in case you get desperate for entertainment. tasty food, the best place to go with a vegetarian in pilsen - i took a friend who appreciated the fried cheese, fried mushroom, fried cauliflower and chips platter i ordered him. but the main thing is the beer which is fantastic | View Page : 1 2
