90 Minute tour. Do it for the beer. 150Kr. and was charged extra for taking pictures on the tour. Our guide memorized the story from a script and was not enthusiatic about what she was doing. Well worth for the few ounces of beer though. It was also avaliable in the Resturant Na Spilze in the basement, so if you dont have 90 minutes you can walk in and taste the tank ulfiltered edition which is just as good! A must visit in Plzen

The beginning of the tour if kind of fun. The high-tech video is entertaining even if a little on the brain-washing side of things. Still, it provides an entertaining and instructive background of this legendary brewery. The installations are impressive to say the least. But things get interesting once you hit the underground. Quite an experience. And that oak-barrel fermented Pilsner Urquell that you drink while freezing in this wet underground maze is one of the few rare beers lived up to the hype. One of the best “Thirst-beer” I’ve had. Really worth it. Inquire about hours. They had 3 tours a day when I was there.

When you are in the Czech Republic and as special in Plzen, you have to go to the brewery. It’s a big one, and it’s nice to see, no great diverence with other breweries. But the 9 kilometres corridors underground, with the big wooden barrels is impressive. And then to taste the Pilsner Urquell Kvasnicovy (unfilitered) is great.

For a beer geek this is a pilgrimage. The history, the miles of cellars, the wooden fermenters make it a must. But it’s also the most expensive brewery tour I’ve ever been on, 150 CZK (US$10), and for that you will get about 4 ounces of beer...unfiltered PU straight from the lagering tank, the best PU I’ve had and probably the best beer I tried in the whole Czech Rep. And if you want to bring a camera, they charge you extra for that. Seriously, most megabrewery tours the world over are free, or much cheaper than this. The guide was reciting a memorized script and didn’t know anything beyond that.

OK we got the special tour - so nothing about that....... just one thing: The unfiltrated Urquell is fantastic, I had 2-3 pints of it and wasn’t interested in stopping there.......

Well, we were lucky to be shown around by the head brewer, giving an in-depth view of the brewery’s history and products. We even got to taste some sample brews (stout, yummy). Some unnecessary films on the tour, but otherwise enlighting (even with the Czech Republic’s biggest elevator :o) ). Highlight was of course the Urquell unfiltered straight from the barrel in the cellars. Wonderful.

As said a few times before, an outstanding brewery tour. The historical cellar is an attraction in itself, but the rest of the tour with small displays and short film clips is very pro. And then there is the beer, in open wooden fermenters and wooden barrels.

The brewery was quit big, but still managed to make this somewhat interesting. Nothing new in the tour, just well planed and executed. And most importantly the unfiltered Urquell at the end of the tour just makes it all worth going. From Prague it was a train trip about 1.40 hours, and the brewery was easy to find in Plzen right next to the train station. The Na Spilce restaurant was a big place with 500 seeds, but the food there was amazingly cheep and excellent. Service was friendly but not that informative about the beers.

There’s a restaurant on premise but the reason to visit is the tour, which consists of a movie, a visit to the packaging plant and the brew house, before finally descending into the cool cellars, at the end of which you are given a cup of the unfiltered Pilsner Urquell. It’s actually a really nice and informative tour, the cellars especially are fantastic, and the unfiltered PU from the wood is crazy good. Don’t miss it.
