NeliX (4), Nørager, Denmark does not count - explanation | | January 25, 2012 fells like a english pub, but serves many danish mircobrews, english style | | jesperhammer (25), Copenhagen, Denmark | | December 26, 2011 Last visited 20-DEC-2011.
Dark, old fashioned pub. You are allowed to smoke...! Not many places left. And prepare to feel some smoke in your eyes.
Beer selection is fine. Some high standard brews that almost never change and a few - mostly danish - high class brews that are difficult to find elsewhere.
I will return. Mostly for the tap list. Not for the "decor". | | ShelbyGrey (12), Barcelona, Spain | | October 6, 2011 Fantastica seleccion de barriles artesanales de Dinamarca, lugar indispensable si te dejas caer por Copenhagen! | | rlgk (129), Skövde, Sweden | | July 25, 2011 Small bar in the centre of Copenhagen. Decent but not outstanding beer selection. | | Boudicca (110), London, England | | July 5, 2011 It’s unusual in Denmark to find a small bar that is not either stylish or “hyggelig” (the best translation seems to be “cosy”) and, indeed, many manage to be both at the same time! The Lord Nelson is neither. In fact it’s quite scruffy. The last time I was here they were laying a new floor, which now looks like dirty MDF, but not much else had changed. The décor remains basic - unadorned except for the picture of Nelson which presides over a model ship, a couple of small prints of the Battle of Trafalgar, a barometer, one of those small glass cases containing nautical knots, an Olenthusiasten award (bronze medal) in a cracked frame and a photograph of a football team.
Although it’s just off Stroget in the heart of town, the Lord Nelson probably isn’t the kind of place you’d come into if it weren’t for the beer range, but I always enjoy visiting. It’s in a basement with the bottom of the windows at street level although, even with the smoke (smoking is allowed except on Mondays and Fridays) and the low ceiling, it can seem quite light and airy as there are also windows at the back opening onto an inner courtyard. There are some high top tables, benches against the wall with wooden tables and chairs and high stools at the bar.
The bar is quite small but packs in 14 hand pumps and not a boring beer amongst them. There is a printed beer list each day. On 24 May the offerings were all Danish, including Mikkeller Exotic Punch, Svaneke In Your Face IPA, The Blind Eye (Croocked Moon) and OriginAle (Djaevlebryg). A few days later, after the beer festival, the line up included an eclectic selection of Christmas beers. The bar also has its own ciders.
There’s no food apart from nuts but there is decent music, free wifi and assorted comics and beer-related magazines such as Olenthusiasten and Beer Advocate in a stand by the door. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming as well as being knowledgeable about their wares.

| | abemorsten (72), Randaberg, Norway | | May 30, 2011 Shabby, smoke filled place with Danish microbrews on tap. Good service with a dedicated bartender. | | kermis (48), The Hague, Netherlands | | May 26, 2011 Small, slightly grungy place in the city center. Worth popping in for the selection of Danish micros on draft. | | magnusgb (10), Trondheim, Norway | | January 24, 2011 Great small place downtown copenhagen with a lot of good danish brews on tap. Nice staff that gives you a nice rest from the shoppingfrenzy outside. Visit also "Barleywine", which is just around the corner. | | JanLaursen (22), Copenhagen, Denmark | | January 19, 2011 It might be a bit gritty, but the atmosphere and the concept is excellent. All beer on tap are from Danish microes. | | MonMadsen (53), , Denmark | | December 19, 2010 Visited september 2008. Nice place with many danish microbreweries on tap. Worth the visit. |
