82 Venue two of my brief foray into Manchester for a staff conference. Visited late Monday afternoon when it wasn't too busy. Very relaxed atmosphere with a well laid out down and up stairs seating as well as a small outside area. Really good for small groups. Lots of keg and cask options as well as a fridge. I had a cask beer from Track brewing which was kept in excellent condition. A bit pricey but sometimes you get what you pay for. |
90 Nice rustic pub i a chic developing area. Located in a brick building with wooden unterior, a backyard, and some seats outside. There was a good AC system inside which was nice after having had a long walk on a fairly hot day. A mix of craf, cask, and some german and belgian stuff. All casks I tried were in perfect condition. Friendly service. |
90 Slick modern, beautiful almost UK pub slightly meets Scandinavian touch. Fair amount of cask beers, not many brewery names I recognized outside of Arbor. I tried 2 cask beers being a sessionable peanut stout and an Arbor beer. Very interesting selection both cask beers were in great shape & very nice. Kegs had the likes of very local Squawk to Buxton to Founders. Fair service and very good place, really dug look, atmosphere and selection that is maybe not hyped but has a great cross-section of UK traditionalism and modern approach, cask was great, fair prices. Excellent place, would have loved to have stuck around longer if only it hadn’t been quite late & I needed to get up early the next day. |
82 My second visit here, but with a 4 year gap and it's still one of the best spots in Manchester. In the trendy Northern Quarter, tucked away on a side street, it seems to be a former shop converted into a bar with a small-ish interior but an upstairs area to fit in more punters. Great range of local cask and keg with national craft options and an international and local can and bottle fridges. Condition of cask beer was excellent and service was friendly. One thing that may niggle some people... tipping is basically encouraged at the bar when you pay and the options are fairly hefty. I don't really mind when the service is good and the beer is much cheaper than London but it seems a bit weird in this country. Just pay your staff properly with a percentage increase on the beer would probably be a better approach. |
84 One of the first (if not the first) proper craft beer pub in Manc. Hidden away somewhat in the Northern Quarter on Port Street it was my go-to spot for many years, before just about every other specialist beer place I can think of in the city. Prices have always been high, but the selection very much on point. Solid local cask, well chosen German and Belgian draft and the cream of the craft newcomers. Convivial pub atmosphere with seating out front and back. The kind of place to meet trad beer drinking work colleagues while satisfying your beer nerd itch. |
84 Great spot, just a block or so from Northern Monk. They have over a dozen regular taps, plus another 8-10 casks. 1/3 pints available and the bartender will do free samples. Taplist was quite interesting and varied, with even some interesting wild ales from Australia, a Pohjala, and varied UK stuff. Prices are OK -- they're just high for craft beer now in the UK overall. Bartender was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended when in Manchester. |
86 Visited on a Friday afternoon in December 2021. Rather crowded already at the bar. Still some available seats in the upstairs sitting area. Good selection of local and GB beers on tap and cask. Nice bottle selection too. Prices ok, bartender warned that some of the beers were more expensive before pouring. |
88 A fantastic beer bar with a ever changing range of UK & international beers. The bar staff are friendly & informative. Beware that some of the beers are expensive, but there is a easy to see price list. There is also a large drinking area on the upstairs room. |
82 Visited many times. |
82 Little bar with a small terrasse. Pretty good selection of beers. Staff was friendly and could give some interesting information about the beers. Prices are a bit nippy but a good occasional stop if you want some decent beer. |
