80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 15/20 DanielBrown (210) Birmingham (via Leicester), England | December 12, 2012 Really liked this place. Low-ceilinged, dark, with rustic furniture. Around 10 handpulls featuring favourites from Oakham. I had a Whim Flower Power which was served in great condition. Clingfilm wrapped cobs available too, which is always a bonus. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 Boudicca (368) London, England | October 13, 2012 A cosy, old fashioned street corner local with a good beer range.
The King William IV is a great little pub on the edge of the city centre. It has friendly service, friendly locals and an unusually good choice of interesting beers. There’s a nice enclosed patio lit by fairy lights too.

Although some pubs have a broader selection, the beers at the Billy are usually nearly all world class. In addition to their superb regulars - Oakham JHB and Bishops Farewell - they often feature beers from breweries such as Thornbridge, BrewDog, Whim, Abbeydale, and Dark Star as well as others from the Oakham portfolio.
The atmosphere is casual and friendly, as you’d expect from a back-street local - and it’s a bit old-fashioned in keeping with that tradition. The service is always first-rate. Although hot food is unavailable, the filled rolls ("cobs" in the vernacular) are excellent, as are the pork scratchings, if you go in for that sort of thing.
Although it’s slightly outside the city centre, the King Billy is a must-visit for any beer enthusiasts visiting Nottingham. |
