| SaintMatty (26), Tallinn, Estonia | | August 2, 2008 A rather unusual place with an odd but distinctive design that has plenty of character. Draught Lammin Sahti is avaialble as well as a couple of other beers not available elsewhere. One negative aspect is the compulsory 2 Euro cloak room charge at the door if you happen to have a jacket or bags on you. Taking your jacket or bag to the table is not an option it seems! Look out for the pornography the adorns the walls in the gents! | | oh6gdx (61), Vaasa, Finland | | January 10, 2008 Restaurant with really alternative looks. The service is done in quite typical Finnish manners, good but not so much extra. The beer selection is really not that good, since it’s not a pub, but a restaurant. The beers to look for is Kellopanimo Zetor III (apparently same beer that also was sold as Teräketjuöljy at some point), and also sahti. They also have had De Proef made rye beer (Diamond Ruisolut), which used to be in food stores also, but haven’t seen it for a while now. The food is quite ok, even though the prices may seem a bit high. The portions are good though. | | KnutAlbert (129), Oslo, Norway | | July 8, 2007 A fun place to go with friends or collegues. The Lammin Sahti (from a plastic jug!) was a fine experience, but the selection is not much beyond that. Go and have a look! | | FatPhil (106), Espoo, Finland | | May 13, 2007 Grab some food (continually changing menu but always has hearty dishes such as meatballs, stew, etc.), a (Lammin) sahti and a (DiamondBeer) Ruis (Rye) beer, and then either escape or get drunk and enjoy yourself. | | chris_o (109), London, England | | April 21, 2007 As others have said, this is not a beer geek type of place. But for one thing - the Kello Panimo Zetor III beer that is not available anywhere else. Come to that there are no other beers from the brewery listed on the site. So for a completist scooper like me, this is an essential stop in Helsinki. Plus we needed to eat and I (wrongly) thought hat, because it is listed as a restaurant, you couldn’t just have a beer. The food was filling and relatively cheap, if a little stodgy. The antipasto provided tastes of a number of Finnish specialities including pickled Vendace (a whitefish), fish roe and Reindeer carpaccio (although I’m not convinced that is best served about 1 degree above freezing). The reindeer liver steak turned out to be a tasty burger that I would not have guessed was made with liver. I found the jokey descriptions on the menu a bit irritating - I found it easier to read the menu in French, which stuck to plain descriptions. The retro agricultural/red army chic decor is kind of fun. I guess this is intended to be a party fun type of place but that was a bit difficult to judge when we had the place virtually to ourselves in the early evening. Beerwise, apart from the Zetor beer, there’s Lammin Sahti and an unspecified Rye beer (actually Diamond Ruisolut made by Proef). Nothing else of note. I quite liked the place. | | sayravai (82), Helsinki, Finland | | August 3, 2005 This is no beerpub, just so you know... although they do have sahti. Haven’t visited in 3-4 years, but the last time it was packed with drunk people (saturday night) and loud music. There’s also a small dance floor in the middle of all the Zetors. The decorations are fun to see once, at least if you’re a Leningrad Cowboys fan, or collect red army stuff. May be a decent place to eat in the afternoons. I’ll avoid it, though. | | Pernille (10), Copenhagen , Denmark | | April 10, 2005 As a beerplace: Not very good. The ryebeer is decent though. Which rye beer is it? wouldn’t know. The menu refers to it as "rye beer". This indicates, that beer is not a priority here. (They seem very proud of their finnish fruit wines though. Tasted the raspberry-dessert-one, and decided not to have any more). Unless ratebeerians for some reason unknown to me, are by definition really into tractors, lots of wood and the Lonely Planet-crowd, I don’t see any reason for this touristy restaurant to be featured on this site. | | Diplomat (38), YPÄJÄ, Finland | | July 8, 2004 Leningrad Comboys´ and all the happy tractor drivers drinking and partying place. BUT: they do serve Lammin sahti here in fi9nnish army steel mugs. Nice decorations with genuine tractors, hay poles and of course a sauna. |
