| spporras (21), , Finland | | May 26, 2008 Plevna is located in the centre of Tampere in an old building which used to be the Finlayson cotton mill. The house beer list includes brews like Imperial Stout Siperia, Plevna’s Stout and Severin Extra I.P.A. among other very good products. House mead and house ciders are available too. Menu includes some traditional Finnish dishes worth a try. As usual, my visit took place during lunch time so I cannot comment on the evening atmosphere. Anyhow, if I have to pick one brewpub in Finland that beer enthusiasts should definitely visit, I would say Plevna. | | FatPhil (106), Espoo, Finland | | January 2, 2008 Lovely restaurant/pub with real character. Great food - have the tamperelainen blood sausages - and a good range of self-brewed beers. Most are full-bodied lagers, but there’s almost always a hefty brew too (stout or impy). Decent whisky list too. | | wunderbier (16), , Finland | | August 7, 2007 [ Updated May 26, 2008 ] Plevna is quite spacious, yet offers the feeling of seclusion through sunken self-service seating and tall booths in the full-service area. Dark woods and brewing memorabilia abound giving a rustic charm to the establishment. Beer quality generally ranges from average to excellent with a definite house character and willingness to attempt a broad variety of styles. Service is always friendly and prompt and the entire staff speaks wonderful English in my experience. At any one time there are more than a dozen of Plevna’s beers on tap and the menu has something for everyone, with lactose- and gluten-free meals specifically marked. Food portions are plentiful and tasty a visitor would do well to try the local stir fry (pyttipannu) or the Tampereen speciality, black sausage (mustaamakkaraa). The prices are typical for Finland, though EU and non-EU visitors alike may find them a little steep. Keep in mind that tax and tip are included into the base price. In addition to beer, the brewery’s own ciders, mead (sima) and schnapps are available much of the time. A pleasant selection of single malt scotch is also on hand. | | oh6gdx (61), Vaasa, Finland | | September 12, 2005 Nice place, good selection of own beers, definitively my favourite brewpub in Finland so far. Also has good "mustaa makkaraa" (black sausage), for which Tampere is wellknown. Also friendly staff, who are dressed in special outfit. Also other food they have is nice, though it’s a bit expensive. | Putte (3), , Sweden does not count - explanation | | February 23, 2005 Very nice place, exellent beer and good food. | | Oakes (323), Miami Beach, Florida | | August 18, 2004 Quality pub with a large selection of generally very good house beers. Service is quite reasonable. | | TBone (114), Pori, Finland | | July 29, 2004 Some of the best Finnish beers are made here. |
