| TEJA (24), Stockholm, Sweden | | December 25, 2011 The first beer garten I visited on my beer trip to Bamberg. Knowledgeble personal when it comes to beer. Unfortunantly was the Weyerman beer I tried sour. They had a selection of beer from outside of Germany that is really unusuall. Food was OK and the beer meny was extensive. | | BriSava (73), , Japan | | December 21, 2011 It is a little expensive but very ambitious bar. Friendly service, very cosy. | | 3fourths (917), Boulder, Colorado | | December 8, 2011 fantastic franconia-focused beer bar on the east side of bamberg. multiple interesting taps, many from small producers. fresh bottles, wide selection, knowledgeable owner. best place to drink a wide variety of new beer while in bamberg. | | TreinJan (166), Leiden, Netherlands | | December 6, 2011 Started as a students pub, nowadays it’s a local as well, and a venue for beer lovers worldwide. Food is not your traditional fare, nice place for something different. Great beer selection from Bamberg, Upper Franconia and Bavaria, both on tap and in the bottle. They even have some Belgian beers, plus beers from the Weyermann Test Brewery. A bit away from the city centre, but easily reached by bus. | | YULbier (127), Brno, Czech Republic | | November 17, 2011 Beer menu is extensive, diversified and contains a couple of rarities. Excellent choice of music, creative dishes. Nice place to linger for entire afternoon. To classify in the category of the non-traditionnal german pubs. A must go. | | Jenks (12), Croydon, England | | November 4, 2011 Not hard to reach, with a bus stop just around the corner going and one just along the street coming back.
The availability of Weyermann beers is a huge plus and the rest of the German beers on the list is intelligently chosen. Fond as I am of the regional cuisine, it is good to take a break once in a while, and Abseits’ menu offers decently cooked food from other styles.
An oasis of comfort and sanity when the better known spots in the city centre are packed to the gunwales. Despite the excellence of such places as Schenkerla, Mahr’s, Fassla et al, this is my favourite place to drink in Bamberg . | | Dedollewaitor (178), Odense, Denmark | | October 1, 2011 Very nice and cozy bar with a,great bottle selection of German classics and regional rarities. Zehendner and Beck Brau/Drei Kronen were on tap when I visited. Friendly service and fair prices. | | Bryne (101), , Norway | | August 9, 2011 A pub/cafe/ bar with the best beer selection in Bamberg. But the best in Germany or one of the best in the world? No! Their beer list is nothing to be impressed by in 2011. Some quite ordinary Belgian bottled beer but a good range from Germany, especially Franken. We came for the Weyermann beer but also found a rauchbier from Brauerei Fischer Greuth. A nice beer! (Visited June 29th 2011) | | lushawn (163), Somerville, Massachusetts | | June 29, 2011 loved the ambiance here. very relaxed. nice music playing. calmer feel than other bamberg stops. less crowded. paintings on the wall. solid beer selection. great place. | | OldStyleCubFan (10), Raleigh, North Carolina | | May 23, 2011 I honestly think this is one of the best bars in the world. It’s the biggest beer menu I’ve ever seen in Germany. They’ve got fresh beers from around Germany, lambics, and lots of Belgium’s. Good service. The ONLY downside it its location. I missed it the first time thinking I was going the wrong way. I’m glad I made another trip back. It’s kind of hard to find via various maps. They have the full run of Weyermans beers. If you can’t make it to the Weyermans store, make a trip here. I think it’s the only place to get them. It was the only stop in Bamberg I could find some fresh Maibock…in May. After about 3 beers, I asked about carryout and it was available. I put together a big list including some Weyermans and Andescher. Well, the waiter brought the list to Gerhard I guess. From the list, Gerhard must have known I was a beer traveler. He brought the beers over himself and apologized for not having 1 in stock. I probably talked beer with Gerhard for 30 minutes. He was very genuine and great to speak with. It sort of made my trip and helped me understand the Bamberg beer scene. He was extremely gracious with the pricing of my carryout beers giving me a very nice discount. I really appreciate the service and the discount that wasn’t needed. Honestly….its probably the best beer bar in Germany and one of the best in the world. It flies really under the radar. I wish I would have stopped here earlier in my trip so I could make multiple stops. |
