76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 16/20
Visited this place quickly, early on a Friday evening. Was very quiet, staff just milling around. Knowledgeable on beer and nice, good with English. Just caught me and a friend at a bad time. Only good and rare stuff on tap. Ambiance is modern, young and hip, in stark contrast to the regular brewpub haunts the city is known for. Definitely worth a visit. More food-focused I imagine, didn’t have time to try them. The beer was cheap too.

Modern restaurant in an old building with quite a special interior. Outside seating on a wide footbridge on the river Regnitz. Menu is a mix of classical local dishes and more modern and international food, reasonably priced. Good service and an eclectic beerlist from the region. House beer (just called Eckerts) is by Isabella Straub (3 Kronen Memmelsdorf), their unflitered pils is by Andreas Gänstaller (3 Kronen Schesslitz/Schnaid).

a swanky little bar area with an entrance on the wooden bridge across the canal, Eckert’s features both a modern kitchen - blessing the weary traveler with food other than pork and potatoes (though they have that too) - and a stellar Zwickelpils on tap from Ganstaller. this tap appear to be permanent, and it’s a joy to finish a long day of beer exploration and bike riding outside of town with a glass (or three) of this gem.

The interior is colder, more modern, compared to other places in Bamberg. Service and food was great! They have a few well selected beer on tap.

Right around the corner from Klosterbräu, they have outside seating right on the bridge, but I ate inside, where a look out the window makes it feel like you’re floating on a ship. Somewhat chic/upscale with some interesting and fresh food choices, though the prices aren’t bad at all. Beer selection is limited but has some real standouts, including selections from Huppendorf, Schlenkerla, and Rittmayer but more importantly from Andreas Gänstaller (the Zwickelpils when I was there) and the hauseigen Eckerts (waitress thought it was brewed in Memmelsdorf). Did take me two passes to find the lavatory; the doors are marked by a large doe and stag that seemed to fade into the bg. And the guestbook is IN the bathroom.
