A pleasant pub to spend time in on a wet Wednesday afternoon. The service was efficient, Lagerbier excellent and atmosphere was pretty good. Well worth walking up the hill from the city centre.

A cozy bierstube with wood panelling and a low hanging cealing making it a bit dark. I think this was the most quiet place I visited in Germany where other customers were present - we ate lunch here, if any body muttered something it was in a whisper. The food was plain German food, but cheap. The service was very friendly. 2 beers on draft and 1 bottle to take away.

I was in the non smoking room, had one beer and some food. The beer was good, the food was not so good.

Good looking brewpub filled with locals. Sevice is efficient, but a bit grumpy. Had an excellent Brotzeit with smoked ham, accompanied by a lager bier and a bock. Worth the hillclimb.

On my last visit, the long climb up the hill was wasted - it was closed for the summer - and unlike Spezial, which was also closed, it’s beer was not even available at the late August street festival. It was a shame, because I think their beer is fabulous, although not quite as perfect as Schlenkerla.

Beautiful spot for a beer outside, sitting under the large chestnuts and drinking their beer from good looking krugs.

Checked out their stunning Biergarten. Rows of old, tall trees, rows of tables, very peaceful and shady. A nice cool breeze blowing and regulars were there chatting early on a lazy Saturday. Leaves falling gently on the tables, spectacular view from the edge to another hill. I’d absolutely love this place on a cool, dark autumn evening, perhaps with fireflies floating by, if they even live in this area. Hard to wipe the contented smile off my face. A good "U" and even better service.

Up top the Kaulberg hill, on Laurenziplatz, sits this traditional Franconian establishment, which looks and feels like a countryside brewpub, rather than a Bamberg brewery. The old matron could be anyone’s grandmother, caring and friendly, and the biergarten in the back has a bierkeller feel to it that can only be equalled by Spezial Keller and Wilde Rose Keller in Bamberg. The Lagerbier is a fantastic ungespundetes lager, well-hopped with beautifully extracted malts. I will definitely come back everytime I’m in Bamberg.

Very local place with lots of old guys smoking and playing cards - some of them even with their own private mugs - neat! Typical German wooden interior and the fare seems also typical German (although I didn’t get any). They have two fairly uninteresting beers - a weizen and a pils. They have a nice looking beergarten, although the weather wasn’t good enough for us to enjoy it that day.

Possibly my favourite summertime Bamberg place to have an evening meal. Sat in the biergarten, looking over the valley towards the Altenburg and knowing my next two stops are the Wilde Rose Keller for a couple of beers and then the Spezi-keller to watch the sunset over Bamberg. The starting place for many great nights. The beers not bad either.
