| ekstedt (39), Göteborg, Sweden | | June 11, 2008 Nice and friendly student dominated brewpub, with a spartanic backyard where we sat down to have a few beer. The four homebrews on tap were surprisingly good. Otherwise, the selection was limited. You had to order at the (outside bar), but the the girls behing the bar were very nice and friendly. A very different place, highly recommended. | | gnoff (80), Göteborg, Sweden | | June 8, 2008 The entrance was a bit wierd with a glass door and a ping-pong table inside. Some sign asking you to walk around the corner. We passed some vegetation and mail boxes for the student housings and thought ’what the hell is this place?’ Though when we got there and sat down, boy did we change our minds fast! Cozy beer garden and a relaxed indoors pub. The place still feels like it’s packed with students. though we didn’t get stared out or anything. It does open rather late, so plan ahead if you want to visit the place, also a shame they don’t seem to serve food. Cute girls in the bar on our visit, that’s always positive. Fast service at the bar, also very nice beers! I’d say a must visit in Berlin for sure! In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub 21 in Wedding, on page 449. | | Rastacouere (413), Montréal, Quebec | | May 28, 2007 Very interesting location, really in a berlin neighborhood basement, rather damp and cellary atmosphere with only 5-6 locals when I was there at peak hours. Excellent bilingual service. The beers were not necessarily shining, but well brewed and there were 4 of them which is more than most. only food is home-made bagels - whih I have not tried. | | mowerbyte (18), Aberystwyth, Wales | | March 4, 2006 [ Updated April 21, 2006 ] Very much a local rather than a tourist-oriented place, and all the better for it. Hidden away in a cellar in an unprepossessing Hinterhof it’s not a place you’ll come to for its quaint location, but in fact it’s homely and friendly in a low-key way. The seasonal dark Bock was on offer as we visited - a more than acceptable malty brew, also tried the (lighter) Dunkelbier which also passed muster. Food is limited to a Bretzel and a bacon/cheese toasty thingumajig which goes well enough with the beer. All in all, a quirky, non-standard place worth seeking out as an alternative to the more polished venues in the city. There’s a small Quicktime movie on the homepage (in German) at http://www.eschenbraeu.de/Geschichte/geschichte.html (click TV) | | Geiserich (16), Vienna, Austria | | February 19, 2005 Far away from the tourist paths the Eschenbräu is in a court of a students hostel. The pub is quite small and dark, but the is a really nice garden with big trees. When i was there, the had at the moment no special beer, and the pils was quite grainy. Not worth the long journey, but if you are in the region.... |
