I am a bit ambivalnet to this place. It has a very nice location near the Spree river in central Berlin, but subsequently it is a lso a major tourist place. We luckily found a table and was set for having dinner, but when we were informed that the food was going to take at half an hour, an honesty that i appreciated. We settled with trying their beers. I would like to come back here off the tourist season.

Visited on June 6, 2008. In ’GBG Germany’ listed as pub number 7 under Mitte on page 445. Busy by the river, loads of people, lots of small chirping (not in a good way) birds. Beers were mainly OK. Outside seating felt a bit temporary. Did not eat though we earlier planned to, since they informed us they were too busy and the food would take a very long time. Rather slow service and in all felt very touristy. I can not recommend this place.

Sit out by the Spree, have a few beers and watch the tourests. A nice enough place but touresty - high prices for Berlin, I don’t think their beer was that good and there are many better places.

They only had 2 beers when I visited, both rather average and I found the prices to be a bit expensive by the low berlin standards. Rather large, wooden places that attemps to be a beer hall, but dos not necessarily succeed. They obviosuly count a lot on their location by the canals which attract a varied crowd. Not my kind of place I must say, not very welcomingand pretty cold. the food was also not very recommendable I would say.

Excellent setting by the river in Nikolaivetel (spelling?), a tiny village like district juts 500m from bustling Alexanderplatz. Understandably tourist orientated but done well. Disappointing that only 2 beers were available – a ‘light’ (pils?) and a ‘dark (dunkel). Bothe beers are quite serviceable and in my view a little hard done by on the Ratebeer dbase although certainty don’t aspire to be world beaters. We didn’t order food but should have in hindsight – the traditional German meats and potatoes (mmmmmmn…………ham hocks!!). Beers cost e3.0 for a 400ml serving and the dishes ranged from e9.0 to e12.0.

I do like the location quite a bit, right am Spree with a view (appropriately) to the statue of St. George slaying the dragon. Inside is something of an attempt at a Munich or Cologne beer hall, which Berlin severly lacks, and on the whole the attempt succeeds. Beer is nothing special.

Only the Helle and the Dunkel available at the time of my visit. This place is a little on the touristy side but on a warm Summer afternoon it is really relaxing in the tree lined beer garden.

Colder than a classic bräuhaus, the beers are nothing special...

Nicely located brewpub in one of the oldest places in Berlin. But that’s about it. Indeed, touristy place. But when you go to Berlin, you probably will be visiting the scenery nearby, so good place to stop for a drink.
