Dark pub with a slightly grungy feel to it. Also outdoor serving in the street, which we preferred. Decent service. Good beers, and Vetter 33 is of course a classic. Didn’t try the food, but it didn’t look very appetizing. A must visit in Heidelberg (and it’s in any case pretty hard to miss).

Very nice and central location; the place is dark and a bit claustophobic; a lot of wood and copper of course. They have 4 beers available, which is not bad, also considering that their Pils was the best Pils I had during those couple of days in June 2007 in Walldorf.

Visited March 2007. Nice location in the heart of Heidelberg. Has a comfortable lived in, old fashioned look. Large wooden tables. Two large hop bushels hang from the ceiling. Copper kettles sit near the bar. Great beer, good service decent food.

May 3, 2006. Schnitzeltag. Do I have to say anything else? Heidelberg on our journey was an afterthought but a great time nonetheless. We saw the Schloss and visited Vetters. We had one of sample of each beer and one huge helping of the Maibock. Our waitress was friendly and spoke English better than we spoke German. Large wooden communal tables were the norm but we were able to find ourselves a smaller setting. The food was good and hearty and I found that an egg on top of my schnitzel is not necessarily a bad thing.

Nice place to hang out - great enterior with fun old paintings on the wall. Get’s very crowded and loud with all the Japanese and American tourists. Selection of their own beers - which is good. The food is as mentioned before very German but good. I can recommend the Sausage plater for more than one persons - we split that with four persons and it was plenty and great. Service is ok - mostly students who are annoyed by all the tourists there (though they get shitloads of tip - so I was told by my there once working friend Martina)

Last visit in November 2000: Heidelberg is one of the coolest towns in Europe and this is one of the attractions. I went to high school here but didn’t have my beer awakening until several years later. Still had the opportunity to drink a few here and it was quite good.

I have been there so many times, my whife is from Heidelberg. About 13 years ago I had my first Vetter 33, and I have to have it more times when we are back, and that´s many times every year, and I always bring a couble of those big 1 liter bottles back home to Denmark. The other beers are also realy good, and it´s nise to sit out side, right in the old town. The food is typical German but good.
