| chriso (109), London, England | | April 18, 2008 Building is more impressive from the outside than in. Interior is spacious but a bit scruffy. Not sure about the opening times as, although it is supposed to be open all day, the doors were locked at 6pm on a Tuesday when I visited. The beer is the main draw - 10 or 11 handpumps, all microbrews, plus the usual suspects on keg. Apparently they have live music at the weekends but I’m told its of the headbanging variety and at elevated volume, so beware if that’s not your thing. | | Bobsy (25), Toronto, Ontario | | October 9, 2007 Great beer selection, but not the greatest ambiance. Can get noisy. | | DJMonarch (82), Northwich, England | | July 29, 2007 Haven’t been in here for a while but always worth a visit if you have some time to spare in Altrincham. Was a bit quiter with no band playing but it was still quite early evening and was getting busy even at that stage. Good selection of ales and ciders available here. | | MesandSim (23), Highgate, England | | March 25, 2007 [ Updated December 26, 2007 ] This is not really the type of place where you go for a quiet pint. It is however somewhere you can go and choose from 11 real ales, a few ciders and a few decent bottles while enjoying some of the best live rock music you will ever see, let alone for free. Live bands are on Saturday and Sunday and you should be prepared for Motorhead levels of loudness. Beers are mainly from Bank Top and Archers so there is nothing amazing but I tried 9 pumps and they were all on sparkling form. If you love rock ’n’ roll and you love beer, when you are sat listening to a guitarist of Hendrix / Page standard (I kid you not) and he is recommending specific beers over the PA (Try the ... because it’s great) you know you are in the right place. |
