64 Open in November and December as part of the annual Christmas markets, this is the place to come if you’re not into substandard German lager at exorbitant prices which is practically everywhere along the impressive route of stalls through the city centre. This ale house is the second floor of the pub tent in Exchange Square and includes craft ales from local brewers in the region, rotating once the cask has been drunk, and given the popularity of the place they must go through some barrels here. The prices are just as high as the lager huts but you can try three half pints for a slightly knocked down price of £6, a full £1.50 cheaper than buying three separate halves. Has a decent atmosphere to it but closes earlier than pubs would.
****Did not return in 2014 due to the Metrolink tram line extension work taking place exactly where the Winter Ale House would be situated. |
