Head straight out of the station, don’t go left into the town centre (and McSpoons). Olde-style pub decor (admittedly faux low ceiling with dark wooden beams), Friendly staff, and a lovely local feel. When I was there there were 4 big name ales and a delicious Brains SA. The 3 guests rotate very slowly though, staying for whole seasons. Stilled and served well. If you have to go to Letchworth, end the evening here, even if you get forced/sucked into the McSpoons earlier to do some ticking. Seemed to have live music every Thursday night.
