| ladnewton (60), London, England | | July 7, 2009 Visited on 4th, and 9th, August 2007 during a holiday in Budapest. Pleasant brew pub with a copious amount of wood panelling. Reasonable prices, friendly and businesslike service and delicious beer (I enjoyed the BARNA). Very German in style. The quality of the beer was higher than most of which I drank while staying in Budapest, and for that it is worth making the effort to find and visit this brewpub. | | MiP (13), Sřnderborg, Denmark | | June 9, 2009 Big German-style beer cellar with dark wood and a Hungarian band playing. The food is good and the prices are reasonable for Budapest. | | MartinT (348), Montreal, Quebec | | January 8, 2009 This classy restaurant on the Pest side normally offers 3 lagers, but they weren’t serving the Natur Szuretten (the unfiltered Vilagos) the evening I visited. The classical music background fit the stone arches and tasteful decoration. My gulyas with spaëtzle (they called them gnocchi though) was quite food and the fish soup was intense flavorful. The two beers I had were clean and drinkable, but nothing really special. I guess I was expecting a little more, especially since the same kinds of lagers brewed in nearby Vienna and the Czech Republic are much more characterful. Then again, when in Budapest, finding a good quality lager is quite the task, so you might want to come here to prove yourself it is doable. | | armando629 (36), Budapest, Hungary | | November 17, 2008 Nice brewpub with fine beers. Large area with a bavarian ambiance. The waiters are a little slow, but not a big problem. Try the unfiltered(called szűretlen)beer, one of the best hungarian beers. You cannot see the brewery from the pub, but if you speak it before arrival you could visit the micro brewery. It is an authentic system, that was the first brewpub, in the 80’s...(don’t forget the communist period...) | | nate2g (151), Brisbane, Australia | | June 27, 2008 Popular with the bus tours now so very crowded when I was there. Food was OK and the Bavarian style beers were ordinary. | | Doggythedog (27), Split, Croatia | | April 12, 2008 A nice little Bavarian style brewpub/restaurant in the center of Budapest. The beers are very good for Hungary. The Vilagos and the Szüretten are nice, the Barna not as much. Around 1.50 Euros for 0.3l. The service was fast, quite friendly and helpful, but the place seems chaotic (doubly so when you don’t speak Hungarian and are in a hurry I guess). Haven’t tried the food but I’ll do it next time I’m in Budapest. A must visit when in Budapest. | | ogivlado (145), Zagreb, Croatia | | April 25, 2007 Chaotic and crowded specially in th evening. When we finally stop the waiter, he was in charge only for drink. Those for food came after 25minutes. Ordinary German (Bavarian) style food. Reasonable prices. | | Gazza (136), Worcester, England | | September 17, 2006 Brewing (well, 3 separate waiters said it was) and we saw the plant through the back windows. Beer was good although one waiter said the dark (barna) wasn’t on but another, when asked, got it for us. Food was absolutely superb too and very reasonable, even more so being half price at weekends - 3 beers and meals only cost us Ł7! Watch out though - this is a restaurant, not a brewpub, and I’m not sure you can drink without eating (although eating here is a total treat and is highly recommended!). You may have to ask more than once to get the dark beer... | | DanielBrown (73), Birmingham (via Leicester), England | | March 20, 2005 Definitely a Germanic, and the beer is accordingly a notch above most Hungarian offerings. The house pale lager I had was excellent and the ice cream was nice too. Not too pricey and good service - worth seeking out. | | omhper (111), Stockholm, Sweden | | January 26, 2005 German style beer hall with German style beers and food. Solid, but nothing too adventurous. |
