| justinwmaynard (10), Chicago, Illinois | | January 28, 2012 Goose Island on Clybourn is a great spot. Love visiting there and tasting their signature drafts, as well as their newest creations. | | DWestrick (20), Ft Wayne, Indiana | | January 22, 2012 awesome place! did the brew tour - very informative and excellent taste testing. had a great time! | IanIPA (6), Tinley Park, Illinois does not count - explanation | | January 5, 2012 This was on of my first brew pubs that I ever visited and still is on of my favorite ones to go to. The large "HOPS" sign is a welcoming site and the wood of the bar and tables is great. The Staff is great here too. Has all the normal Goose Island selection as well as beers you will only find at the pub. They usually tend to have a couple of guess brewers on tap too, so if you looking for anything more than Goose Island, you won’t find it here. The food is normal food you find at a place like this, nothing to complicated like burgers and fish and chips. It can get a little pricy sometimes which can be a downside. Overall a great place. | | Dogbrick (417), Columbus, Ohio | | January 2, 2012 (Visited 10/2011): Goose Island’s Clybourn location is off Clybourn and North Sheffield on the north side. Parking consists of metered street parking and a space in the shopping center directly across the street. Binny’s is right there too (although I didn’t have time to stop there).
The interior is spacious and modern looking with the bar area immediately inside. Restaurant seating elsewhere, and a cool "HOPS" sign made out of incandescent bulbs. Brick archways leading to an indoor patio. The brewing equipment is viewable through a window near the door.
Goose Island has 12 or so of their brews on tap, including many seasonals and special brews. On my visit some of the options included Red Felt Ale, Peach Pundit, Candice (Farmers Market Series), Honest Stout and Uncle Dunkel. All of the beers are above average and enjoyable. Samplers are available as well.
Service on a weekday for an early lunch (they literally had just opened) was good. Both my server and the bartender were friendly and well-versed in the available beers.
Lunch was solid too. My sandwich and fries were very tasty.
Overall this spot is one of the can’t miss places to visit in downtown Chicago, and I will definitely try to get there again on future visits. | | BOLTZ7555 (42), Phoenix, Arizona | | January 1, 2012 Dark wood bar and neon sign that displays "hops" greet you when you enter. Got a bottle of Madame Rose that I poured into a GI flute. Nothing really interesting other than Green Line on tap. Service was acceptable and food was mediocre. Would only visit if I saw something interesting on the website. | wmubronco1992 (8), Coldwater, Michigan does not count - explanation | | December 30, 2011 Have been here approx 10 times, mostly during the day. Out of the way location makes it a little difficult to find. Generally approx 20 beers on tap with a few available in bottles. Nice rectangular bar with seating for approx 30. Very large overall seating capacity. Selection of beer is good. The standards are always available, but always have seasonals plus a few specialties. Food is good and the prices are quite reasonable for Chicago. Most of times I’ve gone I’ve arrived just after they’ve opened so few other customers. Since they haven’t been busy I’ve been able to carry on conversations with either the bartender or my server. Most of the servers are very knowledgeable about craft brews. Sampler flights available. Overall great atmosphere for doing tastings. This location is so much better for the serious craft brew fan then the Wriglyville location. | | savnac (138), Anchorage, Alaska | | December 29, 2011 Went here for dinner and beers in late October. Big, old, industrial looking building, really cool place for a brewery. We got seated upstairs and got completely forgot about, in other words, service sucked. The selection of beers was good but nothing that really wowed me. The food was bad, I think it got cold as the waitress forgot about us. Value was average. The bad service ruined this place for me, I’d maybe go back sometime and just have beers at the bar. | | MrChopin (89), Baltimore, Maryland | | November 21, 2011 Hopping mall location easily missable, inside is brick with cherry wood, spacious place with entrance, banquet hall, bar, and restaurant. Large square bar and seats about 40, low wood ceilings. Walls have large bright signs with "Hops" on it, not a good sign. Service was decent from one bartender, the other was a total bitch, having issues with at least three previous groups, then was short with me for no reason. Football crowd on a Sunday afternoon, pretty big restaurant feel despite the bar. Good selection with a nice variety of beers, but that’s the only reason I’d come here. | | 50belair (32), Florida | | November 11, 2011 It’s in a strip center. The beer selection was mostly stuff you can buy in bottles. I was hoping for some exotics, but was let down. The only stout on the menu in mid-november was a milk stout..... | | gyllenbock (85), Stockholm, Sweden | | November 5, 2011 Visited on a early Saturday afternoon in October 2011. I liked the atmosphere, it was not that crowded.
They had 26 of their own beer available, unfortunately it was not possible to order all the beers in small samples. The beers that i drank were ok, although not excellent. The food was descent. Prices were a bit higher than at similar places, still much lower than in Sweden. In fact, everything is cheaper in the U.S.
It was easy to find this place, just a short ride with the Metro from downtown Chicago. |
