frankenkitty | Don’t look for signage regarding United Liquors, this is part of the Cardinal franchise. For a small store, it impressed me that they dedicated every square inch of shelf space towards beer as they could. The guys behind the counter were also pretty stoked about their selection and enjoyed beer-banter. (Even though my purchases totaled over $100, I didn’t get the ’secret discount’ that others have mentioned so I don’t know what constitutes that benefit. Not my lucky day I suppose. Or maybe they just stopped that practice in the ~2 years since Cornfield’s last rating.)
I thought this would be closer to Flossmoor Station than it was... but it was about 25 minutes up Rt. 30 with a lead foot. Regardless, I’ll return when we check out Glaway Tribes across the street.

Cornfield | Nifty selection of brews from Belgium, Germany, the UK, elsewhere in Europe, micros... and two from Turkey. My brews were discounted without a word from me. It’s a haul to drive here, but I’ll be back.

NobleSquirrel | Okay, so this place isn’t huge, but it’s in a not mainstream area outside of the city. This means better pickin’s than Sam’s or Binny’s. What I thought was best was the fact that they have some rarities, de Dolle, Beersel, and a nice selection of micros. Basically, the full DFH line, some nice rogues, occasionally stone, Beersel Oude Kriek and Geuze!. In all, one of my favorite places to go, they’ll give you a discount if you’re buying singles of good stuff ;)

HopsOrDie | Good selection of American Micros (Stone, Three Floyd’s, Dogfish Head, etc.) Many single bottles, including Belgiums. Staff is faily knowledgable.
