| frankenkitty (93), Oak Lawn, Illinois | | October 1, 2007 JMerrit & jpm30 have said it all. Large, clean store, big parking lot, easy to find, pleasurable selection. The checkout guys were fun & friendly, asking if I’d tried this or that. Pricing is slightly elevated over smaller stores... comparable to a Binny’s. | | gws57 (74), Saint Charles, Illinois | | December 3, 2006 Lundeens is a huge liquor store south of Sycamore. I was impressed by the selection, including the selection in the coolers, of imports and singles. Unfortunately, no pick-a-six. | | jpm30 (57), East Central, Georgia | | October 5, 2006 Having just been in Rockford on business, I was really surprised at the selection and prices, better than Woodman’s in Rockford and Janesville, WI. Only drawback, no singles or mix-a-six section. Good selection of Belgians, German and UK imports and a really nice selection of micros, 4 + 6 packs and bombers. They had 3F’s Alpha King, now a rarity in downstate IL and central WI. They also had Capital, including the seasonal dopplebocks, which is not not available south of I-80 in Illinois. You do need to check the best before dates for old beer. If you are in the area or on I-88, this store is worth checking out. Next to Portillo’s Hot Dog and Menards is in back, turn on to Mercantile Dr. to access. | | JMerritt (44), Macomb, Illinois | | August 8, 2005 [ Updated August 9, 2005 ] For the area, this is, by far, the best beer store that I have found. My father-in-law was telling me about this place, saying that it had "a lot of different beers," but to most people that means they have both Bud AND Miller, so I put off giving this place a shot. Only after I visited did I realize just how much this place has. Three Floyd’s, Dogfish Head, Bells, Unibroue, Goose Island, New Belgium, Great Lakes, Capital, many Belgians and single bottles galore. There is also a wide selection of some rarely seen macro swill if you are into that (Rhinelander, Panther, etc).
I know that Lundeen’s has a store in DeKalb as well, but I’ve never been there, and everyone I’ve spoken to says the Sycamore one is much better. Look for the Portillo’s - this place is right next door. |
