One of the best places to buy beer in Cedar Falls, which is not saying a whole heck of a lot. But, I have a soft spot for the place. If you go to UNI, Live in CF, or somehow find yourself in CF you can get decent beer here.

The first time I stepped in this place was a few years back, I didn’t even see the beer. I thought it sold tobacco & magazines..because that’s what two-thirds of the store consists of...and their name doesn’t mention beer at all. I was somewhat stunned to find a rather respectable selection of Belgians.. They have a small, standing cooler full of Belgians & other imports..unfortunately it looked like they may have been sitting around quite a while.. The selection is decent, but the quality of the beer may not be so hot..there is definitely discernable dust on many of the bottles not kept refrigerated, and who knows how long the beer has been in the coolers.. They have a so-so selection of domestic micros..most of which are in a cooler across from the Belgians & other European pints. Service is marginal to bad.. the staff are mostly college students who don’t seem to care much about the beer they sell..unless it has "Bud" or "Miller" in the name. Overall, Hill Street News & Tobacco is decent at best. If you’re looking for some imports that may be hard to find in the area, it’s worth a stop in to take a look around. Chances are, you’ll find something you haven’t tried before..just be prepared to brush the dust off the bottles.

It’s a college POS liquor store that just magically has different imports that are heated up to above 90 degrees before stuck in the cold as ice cooler which makes everything taste like crap and I was sick of wasting my money and time there so I stopped going. I was however in my younger days (before 21) I was able to purchase of a good Samuel Smith’s Imperial and Oatmeal Stout... somehow.

This small tobacco and magazine shop has a few shelves of decent wines and many large displays of dozens of great beers from around the world. It is very disorganized, for example, the last time I was there I found out that if you look through the boxes underneath empty boxes in the back of the store you will find a veritable treasure trove of beer that hasn't been sold and has repeatedly been slashed in price. Very nice, as many are beers that SHOULD be aged. Great selection of Belgian Ales and Abt/Quadruple, German Hefeweizen, and others. Plus it is right near my residence. Very convenient, very good.

Busy store next to college campus. A lot of good Belgian ales.
