| jbrus (110), Delft, Netherlands | | October 20, 2009 Great building with very interesting interior. Loved the small extra room where we sat and especially the staircase. Service was close to unfriendly and lacked total knowledge or interest in beer or clients. They had 5 MM beers on tap and about 8 macro swills as well. Also macro bottles available. The prices were ok and overall it was not so bad. Even on Saturday evening not over crowded. Would I go back? Probably yes. | | berkshirejohn (79), Bracknell, England | | October 1, 2009 Rather run down and seedy compared to the Porterhouse - loud jukebox music and some shifty looking clientele. Interesting original (?) Victorian interior, but otherwise only the house ales make it worth a visit. | | Ungstrup (245), Frederiksberg, Denmark | | September 16, 2009 A huge place with lots of twists and turns - almost no punters though when I visited on a Wednesday afternoon. Mainly made of wood with some easy brown leather chairs and a huge open floor in front of the bar. 5 own beers on draft - a bit of a disappointment to me - especially because only one was unknown to me, and having a bottled cider didn’t lift my spirit too much either, so don’t expect lots of ratings if you’ve had Messrs. Maguire beers before. | | mabel (134), Toronto, Ontario | | August 21, 2009 Visited on a quiet Friday afternoon in May, they were playing lots of bouncy dance music that I enjoyed. It’s a beautiful old mansion-like home with lots of stairs going to several levels and nooks and crannies to be open with friends or tucked away in a crevice. Everything seems to be made of wood or has wood decorations, and there are lots of comfortable chairs and big windows overlooking the busy street and bridge across the river below. Five of their own brews were on tap, all fairly palatable and good. We didn’t try any food. The service was really friendly and brought our samples up to the second floor and let us be for a while. Nice place, glad we stopped here. | | jerc (141), Toronto, Ontario | | May 26, 2009 Stopped in for a sampler tray in the early afternoon. Was charmed from the start by the multi-level layout, nice view out the windows of the river. Server was friendly enough, didn’t really see anyone around after that but were not looking either. Did not eat but the lunch downstairs looked decent. I suspect that this is a place that fills up a lot in the evenings, but I enjoyed a quiet empty afternoon stop a fair bit. Beers were all okay, but none particularly wowed me. | Bransmark (7), Århus C, Denmark does not count - explanation | | April 10, 2009 Slow and uninterested service, to say the least. I got the feeling that it was not a beer bar, but just an ordinary bar.
Beer is okay, but really basic.
But as one of the few brew pubs in Dublin you must try for yourself. | | KyotoLefty (131), Kyoto, Japan | | September 21, 2008 Beers were decent, though not super exciting. I liked the Irish Red Ale. We were there in the afternoon, so it was rather slow and relaxing. I quite enjoyed myself. The architecture is really fascinating. | | Bart (22), Vosselaar, Belgium | | August 9, 2008 Nice cozy pub near the hart of Dublin, with a few home made brew, not bad, but they are not all the time available, and indeed slow service. | | nimbleprop (16), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC | | June 17, 2008 Let’s start with the good... Located right off O’Connell Street and a stones throw from Temple Bar and Trinity College this Brewpub is right in the thick of it in downtown Dublin. The location itself is very nice and comfortable. The bad... almost everything else. The service was slow and the bartenders knew nothing about beer. The beer itself is a little bland and unimaginative. It’s worth checking out if just for a few different taps. That said, next time I’m in Dublin I’ll likely skip this. | | larsga (108), Oslo, Norway | | March 25, 2008 Big old pub with quite ornate wood carvings and wooden floors. Quiet and kind of empty when we were there during the day, and *cold* (in March). Service was adequate. Beers were not bad, and they had four of their own on tap. It’s a place to go to get four ratings, basically. |
