| KyotoLefty (83), Kyoto, Japan | | September 21, 2008 Best beer in Ireland, by my estimation (although I didn’t try the lagers. The stouts and barley wine were great). They had a whole lot of beer from around the world, but I just drank their beers. THE place to go in Dublin, I guess. | | Bart (21), Vosselaar, Belgium | | August 9, 2008 Very nice and cozy pub, in the center of Dublin, crowded in the evening, with a large selection of internation and home made brews (tasting is possible). very good service, the food is excellent, prepared with their onw beers. Lovely place, certainly worth a visit. | | FatPhil (107), Espoo, Finland | | July 26, 2008 I have a nasty feeling that the guys who wrote negative comments below were probably acting like dicks. Yes, I don’t like my beer cold either, and I prefer the staff to be interested in the product that they sell, but if you stroll in like a ponce and start insulting what they’re doing, which is what it sounds like you were doing, then you’ll get what you deserve. I found the staff, with their limited knowledge, to be exceptionally friendly, co-operative, and patient, even when the place was packed. The local house brews range from the excellent (stouts) to the mediocre (ales) and alas bad (selective amnesia, I forget which one, but it was a lager and sucked). Great live music. Great vibe. Just pull the broomstick out of your arse, m’kay. | | Bragesnak (52), Aarhus, Denmark | | March 25, 2008 Large place - crowded but OK
Nice with both own beers and others on tap and/or bottle | | larsga (107), Oslo, Norway | | March 25, 2008 Great bar with live music, lots of people and an excellent vibe. The staff are friendly and give great service even when the place is packed, which is quite an achievement. But then this is Ireland, after all. It’s probably true as the reviewers say that they are entirely innocent of any deeper knowledge of beer, but then this is Ireland, after all. They’ll bring you exactly what you’ve ordered with no fuss and a smile, and to ask for anything more is to have completely unreasonable expectations of a place that exists mainly to provide people with a good time and good beer. The food was good. The beers were quite good, and they served 10 of their own when we were there. The selection of bottled imports is mostly macros, but still not too bad. My favourite place in Dublin by a good margin. | | Nejhleader (53), Hummelstown, Pennsylvania | | November 27, 2007 well i thought this place was awesome. i think 4 or 5 floors, a nice change up of beers also. i loved the atmosphere here, allthought it was a bit crowded it was good to have something other than guinness in ireland. didn’t get to try the food. my only complaint is that it was a robbery to pay 5 euro a pint ($7.50)! | cellar (5), Dublin, Ireland does not count - explanation | | September 25, 2007 My experiences with Porterhouse is not very good either.
I agree wid BelJohansen, the staff know shit about the beers they
are serving....way too cold. I have as well experinced they wont
serve more than one beer at a time and they get pissed when you
explain to them why you dont want them so cold.
They are just very young and inexperinced....
The bouncers are not very nice either, they almost make you feel
guilty having one pint and are ready to kick you out asap. they are
probably boring there steroid pumped asses like shit.
I would any time prefer a guinness down my local to their
homw brew...very watery. Not recommendable... | KimJohansen (5), Copenhagen V, Denmark does not count - explanation | | September 17, 2007 This place is a joke. They try to give the impression of a serious beer bar stripped from mainstream beers. That’s at least what they write themselves in the menu. The sad truth though is a beer menu stuffed with beers like Corrs Light, Corona, Sol, Heineken and Miiller….
The personal is pretty much incompetent when it comes to specialty beers and when given advice in a friendly manner, on how to serve, keep and handle beer, they act insulted. No proper glassware and the beers are served way to cold.
When my mate and I last visited the place we got kicked out because we bought 5 beers each in order to heat the ice cold beers up. That was apparently out of order…
As I started of, this place is a joke and a complete waste of time for the serious
connaisseur. | | badgerben (78), Blaine, Minnesota | | September 16, 2007 Great variety of their own beers plus a pretty good list of bottles. Food was great. Very helpful staff. This would be a good find anywhere, but in Dublin... it is salvation for the beer geek. | | DJMonarch (83), Northwich, England | | August 11, 2007 Situated conveniently between Ha’penny Bridge and Dublin Castle in the popular Temple Bar district. A great place to head for probably the best range of beers in Dublin. Good selection of foreign beers available too. | View Page : 1 2 3 4
