7 reviews for River City Brewing Co. (Kansas)
| Gregis (23), Shawnee, Kansas | | July 30, 2009 This is a cool converted building in a great part of town, and that is about the best thing I can say about my visit to River City earlier this month. The hostess was incompetent and unapologetic when she sent a group of us, with 5 young children, "upstairs" because their two "big tables were taken". Nevermind that you could push two small (and vacant) tables together to make a "big table" or that we had to maneuver around a performing band to get upstairs, but when we got there, we were immediately turned away because "upstairs" is a bar/nightclub (21 or older only). Nice. Once we split the group in two, I ordered the sampler of all 6 beers they had on-tap. They ranged from decent to bad and the pizza I ordered was easily the worst I’ve ever received from a restaurant. I’m talking Tony’s frozen-cardboard-disc bad. My wife’s, sister’s and brother-in-law’s meals were equally unimpressive, and I left feeling badly that I’d drug them to this place to "try out the local brewpub".This place has the location and ambiance to be a great brewpub, and I’ve had there barley wine at festivals; it was fairly solid. But on this visit, they fell WAY short of even being an "average" brewpub. | | Dansting (114), Overland Park, Kansas | | June 27, 2007 Located in a nice looking part of Wichita. They didn’t have that many beers on tap when I went, but the ones that they did have were decent-to-pretty good. They didn’t have a Pale Ale which I thought was odd, but their brown ale is really good. The food was decent, but nothing spectacular. I would definitely go back if I’m ever in Wichita. | | KAggie97 (157), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring , Texas | | November 21, 2006 [ Updated December 2, 2008 ] Great brews for not much money. This place will always hold a special place in my heart as being the place I proposed to my fiancee. Had my wedding rehearsal dinner there. Everything was done right and the service and quality of food was excellent. Gets busy during lunchtime. | | Braudog (479), Dayton, Ohio | | July 3, 2005 Visited May 1999. In the old downtown area in a cool building. Average US brewpub. | | ¾ (649), Boulder, Colorado | | February 17, 2005 Building is an interesting peice, nothing too special though. Has a cowboy brewery feel to it. Chair and tables were really old and painted many times. The crowd was mostly middle aged women in large, loud groups. The beer was very plain and mediocre. Regular brewpub food. Not worth stopping for on the way through, but good enough to deserve a stop in you’re in town for another reason. | | heemer77 (172), Savannah, Missouri | | January 3, 2005 Nice to have free parking. A decent selection and friendly staff. Certainly nothing to go out your way to find. | | PhillyBeer2112 (57), Orange Park, Florida | | November 3, 2004 Boring range of beers, not a beer lover’s destination, but perhaps worthy of stopping in if you’re visiting and are a ratings whore!! Food is acceptable, elaborate burgers and nachos, some BBQ. Beers are nitro’d. Interesting building, in oldtown renovated industrial area. |
