| Tmoney99 (254), Cincinnati, Ohio | | August 23, 2009 Not so easy to find location on the corner in Germantown district. Parking on the street. Clean remodeled bar in the middle of building and wall tables, sofa in the back and fenced patio in the front.
Freindly staff. 16 beers on tap. Good selection of above average drafts and bottles in cooler next to bar. I had an Old Style draft. I would recommend as a locals or 21 to 35 age range stop. | | SpudClampDawg (43), Jasper, Indiana | | June 24, 2009 Unbelievable find in the middle of a neighborhood in Lousiville. Bring your GPS to find this place. The place looks like it has been a neighborhood bar since the 60s - and it probably has. Bare bones interior - but comfortable. There is even a couch, end table and lamp at one end. The tap selection is solid - with Old Style (the only macro) on tap for the hipsters. No smoking inside, but plenty of space on two ajoining patios. The back patio had live music the nice we were there. In addition to the 16 taps, I would guess the bottle list hovers around 100, with everything from DFH heavies to Expedition to a berliner weiss and kellerbier. Solid prices on everything. No food - but we bought off a vendor outside who makes all kinds of crazy good stuff with mostly local ingredients. The jukebox even rocks and the old school Moon Patrol game is the icing on the cake. Definitely worth the trip. | | jcr (11), Jasper, Indiana | | June 23, 2009 Neighborhood bar in every sense of the word, but the beer list is nothing you would expect in a neighborhood bar. Beer on tap the evening we were there included St. Bernardus Abt. 12, Schneider Aventinus, Brooklyn Cuvee de Cardoz, New Holland Golden Cap, Bells Two Hearted, La Rulles Estavale, Old Style. Impressive bottle selection. Not a large place, but there is also outdoor seating and live music on the patio some nights. Even the juke box holds surprises. From the Web site: "No Eagles, no Jimmy Buffett, no Jackson Brown, no ball-less pop country." The Nachbar’s ambiance is just fine if you like plain and comfortable. Expect to see patrons stop by with dogs in tow. No food served, but you can bring food in if you want. The night we were there, we bought a great meal from a street vendor set up outside the bar. The fare was all local and fresh and very good. Well worth a visit. | mcmd (1), Louisville, Kentucky does not count - explanation | | May 10, 2009 All right, never done a place rating but have to give love to my favorite beer bar in Louisville. It is tucked away in the historic Germantown just south of Downtown. Nachbar is german for "Neighbor" which is perfect since it is surrounded by old houses. I have always been amazed at the beer selection for such a small bar - taps are all microbrews and german/belgian beers, a good portion of which are higher gravity. It was one of only 3 bars in the area to get kentucky breakfast stout on tap. Great outdoor patios, the best jukebox ever, and great bands most nights of the week. Highly recommended alternative to the Bardstown road scene. | EricSWB (1), Kentucky does not count - explanation | | April 24, 2009 A great place for the after dinner crowd in that beer choices are immense. Live music on several nights would only add to the relaxed atmosphere afforded by this well decorated joint. The bartenders are not only fast, but show a genuine interest in serving. Intelligent conversation can be obtained by merely showing an interest in their many great beers. A must stop for all beer lovers. | | Ryan82SM (26), Louisville, Kentucky | | March 4, 2009 Ambiance is laid back with loud music. They did play "A Tribe Called Quest", so props for that. Some beer memorabilia hanging on the walls and such. We went on a Tuesday night (old friends sanity from their family night) and the place was fairly busy, but we were served within a minute of hitting the bar. The thing that irked me is the bartender simply opened our bottles and let the beer spew down the side of the bottle. It was so close to him that it seemed he would pour. Few things sadder in beer world then watching some of my Chimay Bleue go down the side of the bottle. Selection was small (compared to Sergio’s) but included some quality brews. Beers were fairly priced, and even included some swill options. | | 502Flavors (37), Louisville, Kentucky | | October 12, 2008 This is a hipster haven in German Town area of Louisville. It is packed on weekends, has some descent local live music. Descent beer selection for such a pop-bar. Nice patio (crowded with tons of hip smokers). I didn’t get to try any of the food. It is in a very strange location in that it is literally a house in the middle of a quite neighborhood, yet it still blasts music till 4 a.m. on the weekends. Beer list is updated on their myspace page (linked on this page), so if you want to know what beer they have check that out. Prices are OK, bathrooms are absolutely filthy, and pretty interesting in general. Worth a stop, but maybe not on a weekend night unless you are really into the whole hipster thing. |
