RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
A very cozy space off the beaten path that is Newbury Street, with a very large beer menu, though not necessarily a fantastic one (it is, however, more than just good enough). For the uninitiated, the categories actually have a brief history blurb and taste descriptions! Proper glassware galore, as well. During the day the crowd is mostly business types, and at night it is on the young grad-student/art-school-dropout side of things. The music can be ridiculously loud at times, though they’ll turn it down if you ask nicely. The food is excellent, and you can’t beat their happy hour with $1.69 appetizers, burgers, and hot dogs. The only real downside to this place is that they can overchill their beer every now and then. CASH ONLY.

| Beese | Good enough beer bar, I imagine it can get pretty crowded at times, but we went in during the day when it was quite quiet. The beer selection was reasonable and considering I’d only been in the US for just over a week there was plenty I hadn’t had. The food’s good enough and the prices are fair.

| killedge | Good selection but nothing too crazy. Food is pretty good. They have a Wheel O Beer for people who don’t know what they want to drink.

| NickVega | One of my favorite places in Boston. The cafe in Cambridge is very nice as well and much larger. The owner, Max, is swell - knows about beer! ***wheel o’ beer***

mkgrenwel | Very small place with probably more seats at the long bar than tables. Also, most of the tables are in the back corner, which sucks. I was told that they don’t serve liquor, but never verified this because I didn’t care personally. This does make it less desireable for bringing friends who are not into beer. Otherwise, the selection is very good. The atmosphere fits in with the typical Boston young hipster crowd. Most people in the bar have probably read Bukowski. The service was fine and the food was typical bar farre. Cool place to hang out and relax with a good beer.

| johnnysuede | Cool music, very good selection, and the right lighting. I had heard rumors of brusque service, but my encounter with two bartenders was pleasant. The barflies were nice too, initiating conversation.

| luiss | It took me forever to get to this place, especially the way Boston’s map explains it. The staff can be a bit rough if youre not a regular, but they tend to ease up a bit. Average pub food but it is good. I guess if you know what you want this is an excellant place, but be cautious when you try to be friendly to the bar staff, i dont think they take it well.

DarkMagus | Definitely one of my favorite spots, ever. I chose this spot to have my first legal brew on my 21st birthday. The selection is all I could reasonably ask for, but pretty expensive (considering you can get many of the bottles they serve at any decent beer shop nearby for less than half the price). There are many, many bottles however... I have only had minimal experience with the food, but it’s certainly adequate... pretty standard bar food. The proper glassware thing is no problem... this place rules Boston.
