| dogfish120love (14), west hartford, Connecticut | | October 1, 2008 I have never had the food here, but have enjoyed some good beers here in my day. The beer they brew is pretty good, and the roof toop bar and seating are awesome. If you live in the area, you should check it out, but if you are over an hour, i wouldn’t bother, unless you plan to spend the day in northampton. The staff is very friendly, yet not necasarily knowledgeable about the beer they serve, it is more pretty female bartenders on the roof top than beer geek bartenders. When I asked one of them what style a beer was she said its an ale, which was funny to me because i guess i waned to know what kind of ale it was before i bought it. | | FanwickMike (33), | | September 24, 2008 beer tour 09/22/08 very interesting building, with a great beer garden on top, featuring several levels. Very pleasant to sit in the September sun. Host quickly sat us in a shady spot, and waitress took our drink orders. As usual I ordered the beer sampler, 4- 6oz beers, a saison, a rye beer, an IPA and a porter. The rye beer was very good, slightly spicy from the rye, but not overpowering, with some hoppiness as well. The saison was also well done, and in fact, all the beers were very drinkable. Sweet potato fries were our snack while there, and were crisp and hot, and a decent portion. A pleasant stay on a beautiful day, well worth the stop | | TURDFERGUSON (37), Carrboro, North Carolina | | February 13, 2008 Only went to this place once in my 4 years in the valley. Beer is rather mediocre and I can’t think of a better a better word to describe the crowd. Never had anything to eat. Nice place to visit once or twice but not a regular hangout (for me). | | MartinT (304), Montreal, Quebec | | November 5, 2007 The two meals we had at this restaurant were basic, with generic ingredients, but they were rather inexpensive, so the quality was to be expected. The 2 beers we had, the Nonotuck IPA and Black Cat Stout, were well brewed if not lacking in personality. Overall, this was an average brewpub experience, but nothing was wrong per say, so I wouldn’t mind going back anytime. I admit though that in a town with a bar like The Dirty Truth, it’s going to be rather difficult for me to stay at this brewpub very long. | | altonbrownd (54), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | October 10, 2007 Visited and enjoyed the taster’s platter. The asst. brewmaster even threw in an extra sample of his dunkelweisen. Really nice place. Very American in terms of being clean, upscale, friendly and welcoming. Enjoyable. Always enjoy visiting brewpubs. On a bien aimé nos choix. (56e rating d’établissement) | | SlowandLow (14), Connecticut | | August 20, 2007 Stopped in this joint with my fellow beer travelers, sat at the bar on the upper patio, great place to drink on a nice day. Real busy on an early Saturday afternoon. The service was friendly and prompt. I sampled four of thier brews, all of them were middle of the road and none stood out as really exceptional. Decadent, Double Decadent, Hoppily Ever After and the Weizenhiemer. The food is decent fare and was better than average, I had the fish and chips for lunch. Not a bad stop if you are in the area. Better beers can be found elsewhere however. | | JAF737300 (29), New York, New York | | July 29, 2007 In the nooks and crannies of Northampton this brewpub offers a very nice intimate decor. The staff is very friendly and informed. The beers are excellent and they offer a guest brew section which is also nice. The food is more esoteric for a pub but that is great in my book. | | Sammy (211), Toronto, Ontario | | July 11, 2007 A very decent, above average bar, off the 91. There are several good beer bars within a 20 minute drive, in this college area. This is on the more urban style, and attractive lighting and semicircle bar attracts people ready to socialize. The place and the area was 30-something graduate students and associate professors. It is decisively white collar. Good for moi but not for others, another drwback being a decision for isolation to go up the stairs to tables, There is a good selection of their own beers. A few good guest picks and almost instant service, a feature of Western Mass. from my experience. A bit more variety of offings would help. | | hophead75 (77), Boonton, New Jersey | | February 27, 2007 I had high hopes for Northampton considering they used to be related to Smutty and Portsmouth brewery. Unfortunately, the beers were all very average for the most part. Sat at the semi circular bar- layout of the place is kind of strange, especially if you consider they have seating on their roof for the warmer months of the year. Service was decent, had chips and salsa which were decent but no other food. | View Page : 1 2 3
