| Dogbrick (188), Columbus, Ohio | | January 11, 2008 (Visited 10/2006): Redwood Lodge is right off Rt. 23 in Flint and is easy to spot from the freeway. There is a large parking lot on 2 sides of the building.
Inside, the space is gigantic with the bar area on the left allowing for a full view of the brewing apparatus. The kitchen is in the back right and there is seating everywhere. The lodge theme is obvious from the moment you walk in. Lots of dark wood and outdoors-y colors, antler chandeliers, the whole shebang.
The beer selection is good. There are 11 beers on tap, with a couple seasonals. They offer everything from a Light to a Russian Stout. The beers are available in 2 levels of samplers for either $4.25 or $9.75. The beers on above average on the whole, with a couple standouts.
The service here is excellent. Our hostess was one of the kindest people I have ever met. She was visibly pleased that we were visiting from out of state and genuinely wanted to make sure everything was to our liking. You don’t see that too often these days. Our server also knew the beers very well.
Food at Redwood is an interesting assortment of meats (priced at market value on a chalkboard). I had a steak burger and my wife tried the Rueben.
Overall this place obviously pays more than lip service to their beers and it shows. I would definitely make it a point of stopping by here the next time I am passing through. | | jujubeast6000 (15), Houston, Texas | | October 29, 2007 Very good food. Good beers on tap. Friendly staff even late. Decent beer selection. Good place for dinner and beer. | | DrnkMcDermott (69), Downers Grove, Illinois | | August 13, 2007 I was here in 2003 and thought I had rated this place before. But no Place listing? Okay, here’s my Pubcrawler listing: We had time for a quick stop, mainly so we could try the GABF-winning Cream Stout. Found it to be a most surpassing brew, roasty like a stout, but with a notably oatmeal creaminess (Duh!). We sat at the bar and had trouble getting a server’s attention, but it was, after all Saturday night. Managed to enjoy just a 5-beer sampler before going to an appointment elsewhere. Also enjoyed a rich & hearty Steak Tip Chili with our beer. Restaurant is a nice large building in a new office park by a hotel, visible from the Interstate. Very airy with "log" furnishings (even the bar rail was a "log") and stuffed game animals throughout (if you like that kind of thing), and best of all a separate smoking room. All in all, a good first impression. |
