| BeerBunker (10), Burbank, Illinois | | November 27, 2008 Stopped here the night before Darkness Day. The crowd was the strangest mix of people I had ever seen. Half the patrons were college tards, and the other half were people there to drink quality beer. The tap list was very good, with numerous local beers from Minnesota and Wisconsin. The beer prices were also very reasonable. The bartenders were also very friendly. The patio was huge, and had numerous tables. This place loses points because of the pee trough...Seriously, that was uncool...Good taps, good people, and a nice friendly atmosphere. | | tytoanderso (25), St. Louis Park, Minnesota | | November 21, 2008 John has done a hell of a job of turning a serious college sports bar into one of the best craft beer bars in the entire state. Tons of taps... tons of bottles. Constantly changing. Keeps his lines clean. Rotates through the bottles so you know you are always getting a fresh product. Hardly a macro anywhere on the menu. Awesomely cheap happy hours. Can get a tad packed on weekends and for Gopher sports games, but hell... it’s smack in the middle of campus. Awesome special events and tastings. Only drawback is the sub-par bar food. Oh well. Guess I’ll was down this crappy burger with a cheap ass pint of Un*Earthly! Well done John! | ATLBeerDog (3), Atlanta, Georgia does not count - explanation | | October 28, 2008 This place ROCKS! 32 draft beers all great and delicious. The staff is super friendly. I really like the availability of half pint pours. I’m guessing glassware is tough due to the fact that this is a college town and the good glassed would have legs. I was there for the Pre-Darkness Party and met a ton of great folks. John the Manager cares and reads these forums. On the bad side…the chicken wings sucked and I did not finish them. I was still hungry. The great beer made up for the bad meal. | | LawStudent09 (61), Saint Paul, Minnesota | | October 10, 2008 This place is great. Great food, great beer, board games and good service. One of the few places where I can still get a bottle of Dark Horse Blueberry Stout (which I love). Monthly tap parties and other events. The patio is also wonderful. | | badgerben (78), Blaine, Minnesota | | August 14, 2008 This place... oh man, what a place! Lots of great beers on tap and bottles, very helpful and knowledgeable staff, great deck (when it’s not snowing outside). Excellent place all around. | | tennisjoel (22), Shakopee, Minnesota | | June 8, 2008 It’s been a while since I’ve been to Stub & Herbs. Before ratebeer, I was here a few times and the only thing that stuck out was the outdated bathrooms. This didn’t bother me because I was used to this in college. Bad bathrooms, but accompanied with cheap beer/drinks. The tap list since the last time I was here has exponentially grown. Very nice list including Leinie’s Big Eddy Impy Stout on tap, which surprised me since I haven’t seen this beer anywhere in a while. Nice college ambiance, and good food. Price is excellent for craft beer offerings. A bacon cheeseburger meal for $7.50 with a special $3 pint price for any Surly offering with the order. Good, if not great place that I will probably be visiting in the future when my tennis matches are scheduled at the Baseline center which is within walking distance. | zeke626 (4), Minneapolis, Minnesota does not count - explanation | | May 13, 2008 The place has vastly improved since the new ownership has taken over. There is a large selection of local and domestic taps, as well as an upgraded menu of relatively standard bar fare. They have the longest daily happy hours in the area from what I have seen, and most pints are $3 during that time. I haven’t had the opportunity to try any of the beer tastings yet, but I definitely like to attend one. | | Syd (22), Waconia, Minnesota | | January 26, 2008 I had lunch there today. I sat at the bar and had a good chat with a very attentive bartender who was nice enough to let me try a few taps in short glasses. They have over 30 of them. Of note right now was Old Rasputin on tap. Very nice. The food was great (I had an awesome burger and fries). This is pretty good. | joebrew (4), St. Paul, Minnesota does not count - explanation | | January 25, 2008 [ Updated August 21, 2008 ] This is now the bar for your good domestics. Not as much of the super rare one off releases as some, but with 30+ tap lines all dedicated to domestic, and only a few of those non craft/micro beers. John the GM/Beer guy is starting tastings soon, which are sure to be great.
Edit: John is now getting his hands on these previously mentioned rare one off releases, and has started awesome tastings as well. Easily one of the top 3 beer bars in the metro! | ztrvz (3), st paul, Minnesota does not count - explanation | | November 2, 2007 This place is under new ownership, and has quickly improved. All 31 taps are now American micros, with new selections rotating in regularly. The food is still average, but the beer selection is just fantastic. And the servers remain unbelievably hot. | View Page : 1 2
