| OSLO (34), Virginia | | May 2, 2008 I would say that the selection at this store is just as good, if not slightly better than the Larpenteur Cellars. That having been said, it seems to come nowhere near the Larpenteur store as far as selection goes. So overall a solid store, but generally I would say that it would be better to go over to the other Cellars. | | KAF (61), Saint Paul, Minnesota | | October 19, 2007 I only go here when I cannot find something at the Larpenteur store. The staff here does not seem to be as knowledgable or as enthusiastic as their counterparts down on Larpentuer (with the exception of one young man who knows his stuff and is actually friendly and helpful). They have a good selection but seem less enthusiastic to help their younger beer drinking customers. | | Stine (57), St. Paul , Minnesota | | August 29, 2007 The selection of singles here has improved recently to the point that it almost matches the Lex-Larp store. They have most of what Cellars can offer, which isn’t everything that’s available in MN, but it’s close. It’s worth stopping in here once in a while, because it seems to be undershopped by beer customers. This might be because the service is typically somewhat cold, especially comparing to the great guys over at Lex-Larp - including the non-RB folks. | | JCapriotti (67), Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | December 18, 2005 Only bottle shop in Minneapolis area that I hit. They had a pretty good location; got some Victory, a couple other "common" things I hadn’t seen in Milwaukee. Had some Viking stuff too. Pretty good hit on the way to Barley John’s if time is a limiting factor. But not having been to Blue Max, I’d have to go with JK’s comments and say there are probably better selections elsewhere in the Minneapolis area. | | badgerben (78), Blaine, Minnesota | | September 4, 2004 Pretty good selection, but as Nuffield pointed out, it is usually filled with the most easily found items. This will certainly help you stock up on the major micros from the area (Summit, Sprecher, James Page, Capital, Bells, Viking) and a few from away (Rogue). They also have a pretty good British and German selection along with a few Eastern European finds. | | Nuffield (69), Roseville, Minnesota | | July 29, 2004 Not a bad store. I always shop here when I’m in the Twin Cities, as I am a Roseville native. I have also visited their Woodbury location. They keep a good selection, with plenty of good beers, and their sale items are worth checking out. However, the overall selection, while deep, is a bit unimaginative. A bit like going to a 120-tap bar that has things that are widely distributed. But of course, if you haven’t had a lot of Bells, etc., this isn’t a bad place. The northern suburbs got distribution of Viking (WI) before the places in the southern suburbs, so there is reason to go here even if you’ve been to Blue Max. | | JK (98), uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota | | May 8, 2004 [ Updated January 14, 2007 ] One of the top four selections in MN, after Blue Max, and close to Surdyk’s and US Wines. A large store with lots of wine and liquor. Much better than average Belgian selection. Lots of British beers and American micros. Probably the 2nd best build your own six pack selection in MN, and you can’t beat the 10% off when you buy 6 individual bottles. Beer cooler includes beers that shouldn’t be chilled. Very good service here. |
