74 A decent place in St Louis. Very small area. Wasn’t very crowed though when we went. It was a friday night too. Decent beer on tap. They rotate all there beers around. Always 8 on tap though. Decent food, nothing to blow you away. Smaller menu, pizza burgers and that kind of stuff. Ok service. Good prices for the beer though cheaper than a lot of places. |
78 Another great place in southern St Louis. The head brewer Drew is a class guy who will give you a tour of his facility, which is in the basement of this place. Beer is always pretty solid and Drew likes to make some wild/interesting brews. I met him when he was a great homebrewer about 4 yrs before he opened up this place. He also brewed at Schalfly for a time. Food is great and the service is swift/fast. Again, the neighborhood is going through some changes for the better, so he is here before the upswing really happens. Definately worth going to if your in the area and fairly close to the highway fort those passing through. |
74 This is always a nice brewpub. It is literally a corner bar and has that atmosphere. They work harder than anyone at brewing a wide variety of beers and all of them seem to be winners. Wednesday is Peek a Brew day with very small batches of new stuff. Food is always good but the kitchen is small. Pizza is quite tasty. Staff is literally one bartender but they are always top notch. As often happens, last night I ran into the brewers. Their availability is always a big plus. This is a small corner bar that always has great beer on tap.
NOTE: Mattinglys is now closed. A very sad occasion for St. Louis beer lovers. (Updated 7/13/’10) |
36 November 2009. In an odd area of town, I’d like to see this place succeed, but I’m dubious. Stopped by mid-afternoon for beers and a snack, but was told the kitchen was closed -- only to soon see the on-coming bartender chowing down on a burger at the bar. Had two beers myself and sampled another. All were decent enough, but wouldn’t win any prizes at a decent homebrew contest. There was some very cool St Louis-themed artwork for sale on the walls, but the iffy service and unappealing location make this an unlikely return stop for me, especially with so many good choices in St Louis. |
72 Right in the heart of south city with easy access from hwy 55. Walking in there is an average dining area with a small bar toward the back. The food is typical pub food with the burger and fish and chips but the main reason for coming here is the beer. All crafted on site with a very gifted brewmaster. New beers are being displayed every Wedensday along with a rotating guest tap. The beers can run from being a coffee stout and pale ale to a coconut porter and a dubbel. Each time i visit there is something new on tap. The only problem being there is about 5 taps of their own beer. Still i would deffinalty recomend this place for pre dinner beers. |
84 Great place for pizza and beer. Try to go on Wednesdays for their Peek a Brew. Great time. Pizza is great even though the sent out the wrong pizza. Definately a regular stop if you want good beer brewed in St. Louis. |
64 a really nice little place (second stop on an impromptu saturday afternoon brewpub crawl). the bartrender, mellissa was outgoing and knowledgable, with intelligent comments about each of the brews they had on tap. unfortunately, they only had 3 of their own creations on tap, and that lack of variety is a drawback. they do have a guest tap, in this instance, boulevard stout. a nice enough place, worth another look, especially if they release more styles of beer. i spent a pleasant hour or so here. |
74 A great little place in what hopes to be an up and coming area. Service and food were great (great pizza). They had their own blonde, IPA and brown on tap, all great representations. Several other quality selections on tap from locals and beyond. Worth a visit, I’ll be going back. |
80 It is great to finally have this place open. This is a cozy little place in the Benton Park area of St. Louis. All of the wait staff has been very pleasant and accommodating. While smoking is permitted there have been very few people smoking there in my visits. The food is very good and reasonably priced - extra love for having the fries fresh cut. At this point the in-house beers are on a preview basis with peek-a-brew nights on Wednesday. Thankfully their beers will start having a constant presence on tap in the next week or so. The four in-house beers I have had there have been great - lots of care is taken with putting forth a top notch product which will probably only get better. The other taps have mainly regional beers, one or two from the west coast and one macro to accommodate those who have realized the benefits of craft beer yet. The only thing bringing my score down is selection since it is not a large selection of beers, the upside is everything you can select from is well worth having.. |
