78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20
The Bleeding Deacon is a cool twist on an old south St. Louis bar on Chippewa just west of Gravois. The inside is low-lit and grungy in just the right way and the crowd tends to be fairly young and hip. The beer list is scribbled up on a chalkboard; 16 taps include Schlafly, New Belgium, O’Fallon, a couple Belgians, and standards. 40 or so bottles and cans include Boulevard, Founders, Hitachino, Lagunitas, Unibroue, North Coast, Big Sky, and a few more. The service was very good, basically just a cook and bartender when we were there but both were friendly. The food is pretty good, not quite as good as I heard but I’ll go back and try something new next time.
