| Svesse (88), Hässelby, Sweden | | October 12, 2009 Very nice bar centrally located in Amsterdam. A fairly large lounge by the bar and a smaller room behind. Some seating outdoor on the small cozy street. 17 taps with interesting beers from all around the world, on my visits late July 2009 they had 5 or 6 from the Netherlands and some from Belgium, USA, Ireland, Germany and Denmark. A lovely De Molen Amerikaans served from the cask as well at that time. Most of the beers are served in rather small glasses, meaning you can try more. Large selection of bottled beers, around 50 from the Netherlands, more from Belgium. Very friendly and efficient service. Closed Sundays. Lovely place, a must visit in Amsterdam. | | Beerlando (43), Orlando, Florida | | September 3, 2009 Awesome little beer bar in downtown Amsterdam. Easy to walk to, and pretty much a "can’t miss" within the city. The decor is very old world, rich with wood floors and paneling. They had one of the better, if not the best, draft lineups that I found in Be/Ne/Lux, including some De Molen rarities and several lambics. Food is pretty much limited to bar fare like salami and cheese, though what we sampled was tasty. The bartender was a strange fellow, friendly and attentive on the whole, yet a bit peculiar with respect to language with my friend who was trying her best to learn to speak Dutch. With an unbeatable ambiance and more than solid brew selection, this was a fun place to relax and drink on a weekday. Great bar. | | Tim Webb (40), Cambridge, England | | August 8, 2009 When rating this place, bear in mind it is only a couple of hundred metres from the busiest tourist junction in Europe - Amsterdam Central station. This is not a quiant old quarter of some preserved town. How the staff here keep it authentic and chummy I have no idea but they do. And the fact that some of them (and their customers) have been around for a decade or more and still love the place speaks volumes. An interlligent and perpetually refreshed international beer list too. One of the great beer cafes of the world in my view. | | Fin (86), Merton, England | | June 22, 2009 Great bar really centrally located in Amsterdam. The barman was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about what he was selling. Good, solid range of beers with an interesting selection on tap. I only got to visit about four-five bars when in Amsterdam but this and the ’T Arendsnest I can’t imagine would be bettered very easily. I would have loved to have come here again over the course of the weekend but it was closed for the next two days as the landlord/barman was off to Nottingham to their twin pub (Castle Rock place, forgot name) I had DE Molen Heen & Weer, Jopen Hoppenbier and De Hemmel Ervaring whilst here.
| | gerome (11), , France | | June 9, 2009 pretty good beer, eating normal, the local pretty | | MaxxDaddy (15), Hoboken, New Jersey | | June 4, 2009 Nice little bar in Amsterdam with a good selection of taps from Belgium, Holland and Germany primarily. Good bottle list as well. Has an older feel to it with all wood interior. The bartender was very knowledgeable and friendly. Value is great for tap beers, and decent for bottles. Very cool, relaxed atmosphere inside. Definitely a must-visit. | | goozen (14), Leiden, Netherlands | | May 16, 2009 Old bar with an good selection of Belgian, German and other countries beers. | | NoiZe (49), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands | | January 15, 2009 Nice selection, nice service. Good! | | forst (15), , Italy | | January 13, 2009 Extremely competent staff, awesome selection of taps, everything you could ask from a beer lover paradise.
Almost no food, though, just a couple of appetizers and some cheese. | | Borresteijn (52), Amstelveen, Netherlands | | August 30, 2008 Beercafé in the heart of Amsterdam, so always very crowded with (beer)tourists. Nice old bar, tiles and woody interior. Good selection of tap beers and a great selection of bottles, although I think the bottles are a bit overpriced. There’s no music, so it can be very quiet in here. Nevertheless one of the best beer bars in Amsterdam. | View Page: 1 2 3 4 5 6
