Visited this place twice whilst I was in Amsterdam in Oct 09. Its a little way from the centre but as Loz and I was cycling pretty much everywhere not a problem and it looked like the trams came really close to this place. I must say the first thing that struck me about this place was how spartan it was inside, but I rather liked that and enjoyed the space and lack of clutter that are ofetn in other bars for no apparent reason. The service was very good and the beers and also beer prices were amongst the keenest that I’ve seen anywhere for the strength and quality of the beer. I particularly enjoyed the Columbus but to be honest there was little too fault in any of the range. We loaded up the cycle panniers when we left on the first visit and did exactly the same a couple of days later. Excellent bar and one of my favourites in Amsterdam.

Brewpub a fair walk from the city center (easily accessible by tram). Fairly bare and toned down interior, lots of seating outside. 4 or 5 of their own beers on tap, usually in good form. Friendly and efficient service. Since I had tried most of the beers before, there wasn’t much new to try, but still nice to try them on tap and especially on their own outdoor area on a warm summer day (visited July 2009). Worth a visit, especially if you haven’t tried the beers before.

Visited in late August 2009. Very cool little brewpub in downtown Amsterdam, located in an old building adjacent to one of the few remaining windmills in the city. Ample outdoor seating is comprised of long picnic tables under the shade of young trees. Indoors, you will find a sparse but quaint decor, old bottles lining the ceiling of the tiled room. The brewer was hard at work in the back room while I was there, while two friendly servers offered up 6 draft offerings. It was interesting to sample their product on draft, as it is significantly different that the bottled stuff, in my opinion. Less funky. Overall, this is one of the top beer destinations in Amsterdam. Fun place.

I paid my most recent visit here on 19th March 2009. Still going string and attracting a loyal clientele of regulars, beer enthusiasts/beer-tourists and regular returnees from outside Holland. I liked the eccentric nature of this bar, and the friendly but businesslike service. Sometimes long queues form. In recent years they have knocked a wall down to form an extension to the indoor drinking area. Those of you interested in such things may like to know the "egg" logo of the brewery is a pun on "ei" the Dutch for "egg" and "IJ" the name of the river beside the brewpub. Both words are pronounced like "eye". Thus, IJwit = eggwhite; PassIJ = easter egg, etc. This is a mecca to which I pay homage each time I visit Amsterdam, and is one of my favourite brewpubs in the city.

Fun free tour (fridays at four). OK beers. I liked the atmosphere. The place was full of locals enjoying a beginning-of-weekend beer.

Fine beers, simple pub and brewery, avarage friendly stuff. The collection of the bottles is funny, but the ambience is poor. The selection is only the tap beers, they have one bottled called natte. You can buy the beers at the Cracked Cattle.

Took the excellent, free brewery tour (fridays at 4 pm), and had a couple pf their draught beers (no, the Vlo is not sold in here!). They weren’t diacetyl bombs like I’d been warned, but quite ok. Not as good as in bottle, though. The bar is very simplistic, but there are hundreds of old (empty) beer bottles on the walls - a gem for collectors. The windmill is beautiful, too. The only glitch was when I ordered a plate of salami and cheese: the waitress just took the cheese cubes and salami slices from the fridge with her bare hands after handling loads of money and who knows what else. Convenient, but not very hygienic, IMO. The cheese was very good, but the salami had maybe 60% fat, and very little meat. Anyway, we left there happy - so this is just minor whining. A must see in Amsterdam.
