| hophead75 (78), Boonton, New Jersey | | June 12, 2006 it sucks that I attended my first open house on 6/3/06 on the brink of the brewery going out of business. Nice little brewery with a small bar with two taps in the corner, owners were willing to also crack 12 oz bottles for tasting purposes. Met alot of ratebeer people and got the opportunity to drink an insane amount of great beer. As for heavyweight, they make in my opinion, the best specialty beer in NJ, and collaborate with homebrewers on projects. It doesn’t get better than that. RIP Heavyweight, I wish I had more experiences with your beer in the future. | | jimmack (19), Nutley, New Jersey | | August 16, 2005 Like others have said, this is a brewery so it’s hard to rate. Try stopping by for one of their open houses and you will see why everyone really likes this place. Tom and Peggy are gracious hosts, offering up their newest beers to sample along with plenty of snacks. | | willblake (54), Long Branch, New Jersey | | June 15, 2005 Although you can call ahead and make a visit any day, the best time to hit Heavyweight is during their open house about every other month. Facilities include a ping pong table, big table of snacks, two taps of whatever is new and the opportunity to purchase 750s of their rarer offerings like Saisons de la Soeur. Great fun, those open houses, and, if you go, bring along some food or beer to share! | | MaiBockAddict (76), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey | | March 28, 2005 This is a whacky rating...It is afterall a brewery in a warehouse. I do recommend attending the Open House held every quarter. There is always a great spread of food, and plenty of great beer brought by the attendees. Tom and Peggy are great hosts and it is always fun to sample their new offerings and puchase rare 750’s. | | freekyp (27), Thomasville, North Carolina | | October 8, 2004 [ Updated November 2, 2004 ] What can you say? Its a brewery, so of course the ambiance is not of primary importance. Its clean, and these guys product some of the best beers to come out the North East in a while. Styles are daring and hard hittin, and Heavyweight is definitely a champion as far as NE brewers go. HW has regular tastings, open to all, and standard noshables like pretzels, dip, and cheese platters. Brewer Tom Barker is emphatic, proud of his product (he should be) and generous. It is not uncommon for him to pour samples right out of the fermenter. | | Hawksfan17 (42), Conshohocken, Pennsylvania | | August 27, 2004 I happened to go when they had some homemade food, this place is a great brewery and everyone is very friendly. | | Eyedrinkale (129), Beer Town, New York | | August 16, 2004 Could be the best brewery in New Jersey. As for Ambiance and Service, the only way to rate this is to be at the Open House. I was and Tom and Peggy are friendly. They just started bottling 750’s of OTOP (one time, one place) beers such as BORIS. I’m not sure of the hours they are open but they are very small. | | mkobes (48), paramus, New Jersey | | August 15, 2004 Great place. Great beer. No food there because this is the brewery. Sometimes there is food though if they are having a open house. |
