40 reviews for Triumph Brewing Company (Princeton)
| kseecs16 (139), Naperville, Illinois | | October 30, 2009 Visited on a Wednesday night and the place was plenty busy. The Phillies, Yankees World Series debut may have played a part in that, regardless it was a lively crowd and the large room was bustling but not loud. A nicely built and decorated room dominated by the large brewing tanks behind the bar. Food was excellent for a brewpub and the beers I tried, 4 in total were all good, though nothing knocked me out. Nothing really unique on tap just a regular lineup of Amber, IPA, Dry Stout, Nut Brown, Honey Wheat and a seasonal Pumpkin and Oktoberfest. Service was prompt and friendly, we had a chance to talk to the chef who seemed very passionate about his food (as well as the Phillies) and he was kind enough to send us over an appetizer. | | dmac (27), Toms River, New Jersey | | July 30, 2009 Can’t believe I have fallen off on my place ratings so much. I’ve been here several times now and this is one of the more upscale brewpubs you will find. It is after all in the center of downtown Princeton so a certain area of preppy snootyness is expected but actually it wasn’t that bad. The beers are always solid but it would be nice to see them throw on a few more rotating specials and ease up on the staples that alwas seem to be on and never seem to interest me. The food is good but a bit on the pricey side. Growlers available but what the hell is up with the clear jugs?? | | Glouglouburp (214), Montreal, Quebec | | July 30, 2009 A very classy place (by brewpubs standards). This is not your neighbourhood watering-hole/tavern. Sits well over 100. The interior is quite something. Seven homebeers on tap when I was there. For the locals they have a board with the upcoming beers (6 of them when I was there). For the none locals this board is torture. Service is like an upclass restaurant more than a beer-geek hangout. Food menu is not extensive. It has some fancy sandwiches and stuff of that nature if that’s what you want. But for us the real treat were the real meals. A little pricey ($20+) but really worth it. This ain’t you’re usual pub fare. This is fine cuisine. The beers varied from ok to very good. I think you won’t find a “wow that’s amazing!” there but you’ll find a couple of above average quality brews. This is not a place worth the detour for the beer only. I wouldn’t spend a full night there. Not enough windows anyway. But if you want a very good dinner and a few good pints you really get two truly enjoyable hours at this pub. | | wilsomb (29), State College, Pennsylvania | | June 24, 2009 Good Beer. One of the better Jersey brewers, but it is more of a trendy brewpub that a top-notch brewer. It’s worth going for a drink and a meal. The menu is quite small, though. Don’t expect amazing things in that department. It’s not worth a long drive, but stop by if you’re in the Princeton area. | | decaturstevo (59), decatur, Tennessee | | June 17, 2009 A pretty up scale place but really quaint. To have sat in the middle of the bar area I felt comfortable. The beer selection was nice our server was there to help. Very nice selection of beers across a wide range. I would drive 50 miles out of my way to visit it again if in the area. | OpticianVlad (1), Passaic, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | May 30, 2009 I went here many years back. The food was great and so was the ambiance. It was my first foray into the world of beers. The risotto was terrific. | | hopdog (197), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | March 7, 2009 Can’t believe it took me this long to finally make it out to this location! Looks like a Triumph inside (although larger than the other 2). Sat at the bar at noon on a Saturday. Not too busy at all inside. Bartender was nice, friendly and talkative. The food is good if somewhat limited choice wise. I’ll stop by again if I’m in the area. | | elihapa (62), Honolulu, California | | November 21, 2008 I went here a couple of times while visiting my buddy at Princeton University. Triumph has a convenient location right adjacent to the school, and on the central strip of town. After entering through a long and slightly confusing hallway, you emerge into the main brewpub area.
Unlike some of the other brewbup’s I’ve visited recently, this one screamed elegance. But how were the beers? Overall, I found them halfway decent, ut certainly disappointing given my expectations. I felt the selection they had on tap was relatively unexciting (a porter, brown, ipa, heller, oatmeal stout, and honey wheat). No Rauch, Impy Stout, Roggenbock, or any other novelty. So maybe I caught a bad night. But nonetheless I wouldn’t go out of your way to hit this place up. | | nj4christ (14), Columbus, New Jersey | | October 9, 2008 Great Beer. One of the best Jersey brewers. It’s worth going for a drink and a meal. The menu is quite small, though. Don’t expect amazing things in that department. It’s not worth a long drive, but stop by if you’re in the Princeton area. | | beastiefan2k (108), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas | | July 30, 2008 Similar style to the Hew Hop location but looks more industrial and less friendly (read: cold). Very large and at the end of a long hallway. Sat at bar on a weekday afternoon, the service could have been more attentive. Did not like the food prices and was not impressed with my brewers plate. But the beer was good. The locals seems to all be drinking the crappy honey wheat. I was there for the awesome Gose and the Jewish Rye. The IPA was well done as well. Visit this place when a good beer is on tap. |
