I had such a good time at this place. It was empty when we arrived - around midnight on a Saturday. Apparently people consider it more of a food than a beer place. I disagree. But then again I’m a vegetarian and it’s definitely not a food place for a vegetarian. The novelty cleaver/knife taps are the first thing that strikes when you approach the sterile bar. Then, atop a tractor seat bar stool, I divulged in a slew of great beers, all from jars. I guess that’s why Northerners say they’re going for a jar. I used that joke with the bartender who was friendly, informative and a bit of a comedian himself. Good banter. Good beer. Highly recommend this place for a chill Saturday night beer when Spuyten Duyvil (literally opposite) is too packed and therefore lacking in ambiance.

Came in to this place just to sit at the bar. Nice layout of picnic tables, with an industrial look- high ceilings. The tap handles are all meat slicing utensils. The bartender that was there at the time didn’t really know beer, but knew his whiskeys (or at least seemed like he did because I’m naive to whiskey) The house beer, brewed specifically for the restaurant by Sixpoint is pretty good. That’s basically the reason I went. Must go back to try the food it smelled terrific.

Really good barbeque, and a pretty solid beer list. This is a very convenient place to eat and grab a pint (or half) as it is right across the street from Spuyten Duyvil. Prices can get steep for the food, but that seems to be status quo for BBQ. Interesting communal dining room atmosphere with the picnic table set up. Staff was pretty friendly when I stopped in and bartender was quick. Highly recommended if you are a fan of BBQ.

This place is not really a beer place. They have a small but decent selection of taps (the Heavyweight stuff is long gone). It excels in its fantastic whiskey selection and great (and really fatty) barbeque if thats your thing.

I fell hard for the magic of this place which resembled a bbq stand I saw on a country road east of Asheville, NC when I was touring with a band. It had very fun bare bones appeal to it complete with picnic tables, blue grass music, paper towels for napkins, and stunning food. It was almost comical how the 1/2 lb of sliced brisket just splashed on to my tray, with steam rising and Gus’ pickles on the side with buns. There was quite a charred array to select and then I saw the funky tap and beer slection, with a glance at the very good whiskey list. It appeared that they had 1/2 gallon pitchers or possibly growlers, besides serving their beer in mason jars. The food was served by the pound, 1/4, 1/2, and multiples there of and there was no need of a knife as th side of my fork just pushed the tender meat aside. It was priceless to see the infamous WPIX Yule log burning on the tv in the fire place. Over and over again. This place is easily on par with the best bbq places in NYC.

This is basically a no-brainer, really. It is right across the street from Spuyten Duyvil. What more do you need? Someone to put the food directly into your mouth? What a great setup. From the mural on the wall to the tap handles to the lamps. The only thing I can do without is the tv with the fireplace video running. I think the food is fantastic (when it stands alone...not compared to any TN bbq or anything like that). The beers are good as well. If you are at Spuyten Duyvil, it would be a waste not to check this place out. I hate potato salad, but I think theirs is excellent.

This place totally ROCKS - extremely cool! Across the street from Spuyten Duyvil with BBQ to die for, and a craft brew selection that veers toward hoppy.brbr Beer is served in glass mason jars used for fruit preserves. The interior is exposed brick with atmosphere in spades! VERY cool, guys. Check this f***ing place out!

Awesome place, not too big but nothing in this part of Brooklyn is. Same owner as Spuyten. Come in and get on a line for meat. the guy cuts up what you want and puts it in a tray. you can get some sides (I recommend the pickles and the Potatoe salad). Pay (not too cheap) and have a seat on one of the picknic-style benches (which each have a roll of paper towels). Go up to the bar that has tap handles all in the butcher theme (ie.e cleavers) and order from about 10 taps, which are all worth trying (had 2 rare HWs, Sly Fox Rauch, and more). If you want they can fill up a growler and give you mason jars to drink out of (awesomely cool). Decorated walls with meat and a flat panel TV with a snow scene (kind of gets you). Good food and good beer in a cool, trippy setting, enjoy. Minuses - long line for food and pricey.

Had a great time in here. High ceilings in a very industrial-looking space directly across from Spuyten Duyvil. The smell of smoked meat greets you as you walk up the path on the way in. Meats are sold by the pound and weighed on a scale right in front of you. A nice selection of meats that varies with each visit. Pulled pork, brisket, pastrami, and a variety of sausages greeted us on our visit. A small but well considered list of beers including some retired Heavyweights that are sold by the half-pint, pint, quart, half gallon and gallon. Service is a little pokey behind the bar, but people are friendly enough. Food is delicious and the beer doesn’t hurt either. Definitely a new part of the required itineray on the NYC tour.

My favorite of all the NYC beer stop’s. Just was walking by and saw this little cutaway and could see a bunch of taps and a huge board listing something? So we walked in and was blown away by the awesome smelled of smoked meat in this hole in the wall that looks to be an old 2 car garage. Look at the tap lineup and go WTF? Heavyweight! and was also told he is only brewing these beers for this bar. Same 3 were on and pretty much all the same beers bookish mentioned, all taps have butchers knives for handles. My 2nd day in NYC my friend had to go back for more this is when we stood in line for 1 hour waiting to order this crack in the form of an aroma we couldn’t resist. We got ribs that were awesome, pulled pork kicked ass, beef brisket was too dry I should’ve lathered it with sauce, baked beans were very smokey and potato salad was good, they even give you a bbq sauce then a smokey marinade I’d call it and vinegar to mix up your own sauce to your liking. The beer was awesome, the food was awesome, they also had about 50 bourbons to choose from along with whiskeys, cognacs, and a big wine selection. My favorite spot of my trip. Walk in and try not to order food, I dare you.
