LordErasmus (9), New Jersey does not count | | November 28, 2007 Best Dia de los Muertos E-V-E-R. BTW beer before mezcal is a bad idea, just thought I’d throw that one out there. Austinpowers says there was a live DJ, but I coulda sworn I saw some hippies playing tambourine and drums in one corner of this place but maybe it was an agave-coated-worm induced hallucination of mine. This place is definitely top notch though, very posh. I prefer your more dingy rough-around-the-edges bars, but this one was definitely very enjoyable. | | austinpowers (151), New York, New York | | November 14, 2007 Me and LordErasmus hit this DUMBO institution for Dia de los Muertos! I loved the swank feel of this place. It is a bar, not especially a beer bar, yet it has a very strong selection of Belgian brews. ReBar was voted #1 new NYC bar. There is a live DJ and a cool brick-lined space with arched ceilings in a former factory. There’s an art gallery towards the back. It’s definitely a scene - everyone’s sharply dressed. | | sheatripper (13), Brooklyn, New York | | November 7, 2007 Second floor of a factory/loft space in Dumbo which serves as a kind of community gathering / artgallery/ peformance space / coffehouse. Taps have included quality yet familiar domestic and foreign selections e.g. Hacker-Pshorr, Kwak, Rogue, Great Divide, Bear Republic and N.C. Brother Thelonius. Each foreign draught is poured whenever possible in the brewery’s glassware, which is a nice touch. Bottles include several American micros as well as Belgians like Chouffe, Duvel, Chimay, Lindemans. Don’t look for many rare finds, however. A bit pricey. Small plate/tapas bar menu. |
