5 reviews for George Keeley
| DeadGirl (39), West Palm Beach, Florida | | December 1, 2009 Quickly became my #1 choice beer bar in the UWS during my first visit and many, frequent returns afterward while I was living in Midtown at the time (kinda had to do with one of my best friends living within a block of the area). With a decent selection of beers on tap and cask, you’ll have no problem finding at least three highly rated beers on the menu. Food is typical bar food. Get there early, because it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. If you’re a girl, I’ve found that many guys will sacrifice their seat for you here. There should more of that going around... Return: Yes. | | Pivoyager (36), Gaithersburg, Maryland | | November 24, 2009 Located among the college/frat boy swillholes on the Upper West Side is this pleasant, and lively, pub, where thirsty beer lovers can find a convenient pint of something frothy, a big, sloppy cheeseburger and efficient service.
A moderately size place with an average size bar, George Keeley’s makes for a fine evening, and if that evening is a Friday, the place will be packed, but well mannered and in to decent beer. No pretentions here. While I would not go out of my way to stop by - my travels to the city rarely get me to the UWS - it still is a fine place in a city filled with fine places - and a few crappy ones too, but we’re not about those.
Oh, here is what I had: Victory Donnybrook Stout, Arcadia Starboard Stout and an ESB on cask.
| | kiplog (15), Evanston, Illinois | | January 29, 2009 Friendly, small, with a solid but not overwhelming collection of taps - one or two interesting selections. The owner seems to constantly seek out hard to find kegs. I’ll call it the best UWS beer bar for that reason, just edging out Westside Brewing.
Stopped in on an early afternoon, so fairly empty with only a couple of regulars and a couple of tourists. Owner was at the bar so I got to talk beer while I tried a Fishermans off the beer engine, and a Jewbelation of the tap. 2 beers not for the uninitiated. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | December 1, 2008 Popped in here for an hour or so while walking on the UWS. Sort of a sports bar kind of vibe. About 20 or so taps and one cask. Specials are pretty solidly priced (4 bucks), but regular pints aren’t. The cask of IPA was in great shape when I was in. This place is a welcome addition to an area that doesn’t have a whole lot going on beer-wise. | | JCastner (11), New York | | July 8, 2008 [ Updated December 9, 2008 ] Friendly staff, laid back atmosphere, and monthly local brew tastings make this pub the best choice on the UWS. |
