| mouse725 (14), Albany, New York | | April 4, 2009 Decent place, especially if you have a gift certificate. Decent beer selection, though on our first visit we think a tap had gone wrong and on the second they were out of the beers we wanted. Still, a quiet, nice atmosphere corner restaurant in a quieter section of Troy. Would go to again, but only with a gift cert. | | ABUSEDGOAT (57), California | | December 10, 2006 Only was at the bar, but also had some food. Nice looking bar with a good tap selection. Lotsa English brews, lotsa local taps. Nothing really wow though. Food was average at best, veal and Philly cheese steak. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing special either. Greasy pub food, you know the drill. Better than Mahars, but that says basically nothing. If you’re in the area it’s definitely worth checking out, but it’s not worth traveling a great distance. | | IMtheOptimator (33), Bethel, Connecticut | | October 28, 2005 Been a while since i visited here, but from what I remember, the tap selection was nice, with Victory, DFH, and Brooklyn for starters. The bottle selection was nice as well, though I can’t remember all they had (I had Samuel Smith’s Pale Ale because I think had tried most of the better beers). Went for lunch so we stuck to sandwiches, but they were delicious and I remember saying that we should return in the evening to try some of the entrees. This place is often compared to Mahar’s Public Bar in Albany, and the comparison goes like this: they’re the two places to go in Troy and Albany for beer, but you go to Mahar’s for the beer, and Holmes & Watson for the food. |
