September, 2007 rating that I just figured out was a misplaced rating on the Merriman Ave. location. Decent food, OK beer, knowledgeable staff. A college bar ambiance, but seems to have a fairly diverse crowd. They were out of half of the house brews listed when I was there, and it seemed a few tasted a tad sour from hot kegs, but they did give me a sampler flight in plastic cups of the ones they did have. OK veggie lasagna.

cool place. looked like a converted auto shop garage. had a wide open covered outdoor area. got a sampler of all eight of their tap brews. the beers were pretty good overall. we were there in the middle of the afternoon on a monday, so somewhat dead - but this place seems like it would be a good hangout if we lived in the area. didn’t try the pizza.

My family stopped there during one of our many trips to the blue ridge mountains, after I found their site on the web. The pizza was good, but I prefer a more NY style pizza. But I really didn’t go there for the pizza. I stopped for their beer. I tried 5 or 6 different things, and they were all tasty. I’d have to say I preferred the IPA and the Porter. The wait staff was fine, although we did find ourselves waiting a couple times a bit too long. But overall, a good experience and will definitely be returning. They sell some cool t-shirts as well!

This is a satellite of the main place out north. It’s ok if you can sit on the patio. But do not, under any circumstances, go there when it is busy. Unless, of course, you want to wait a half hour for your beer and twice that for your food. Some of the slowest service ever, and on more than one occasion. But if you can hit it when it’s slow, sit at the bar and try a few of their beers, it’s allright.

This is the small satellite location. They don’t have as many beers as the main site and aren’t as big. There is no movie theater or extra frills, this is just a small bar to come hang out, watch some TV, and have a brew. It is nice that this place is accessible by foot from downtown, however I almost never find myself here for two reasons: the beer, though decent, isn’t particularly extraordinary for Asheville and the selection has only rotated one time to my knowledge in three years, and I experienced perhaps the worst service of my entire life here. I am seriously not one of those guys who demands top notch, stellar customer care everywhere I go. Just a modest attempt at accurate and reasonably efficient service will make my day. I’m more interested in the surroundings, the beer, the food, etc. This is probably the only place in recent memory that I’ve actually been disappointed due to an abysmal waiter. We had a party of four and could not sit at the bar because it was nearly full. So we were seated which made us the second table in the entire restaurant. During the entire hour and a half only two tables were occupied. We ordered only one round of beer and nothing else. No water, no food, nothing. It took a total of 90 minutes to receive the check after placing our order. We were in good spirits upon entering and were courteous and simple in ordering, I don’t see how it’s possible we upset our waiter to cause him to purposefully ignore us so. I’m glad I visited this place numerous times in the past so It’s now out of my system. On my previous visits, I’ve had the pizza which is tasty.

Since I haven’t been to the original, I don’t know how it compares, but on it’s own merit, this place is pretty sweet. The service was very friendly and quick despite the large number of patrons. The pizza was extremely good. They only had 8 beers on tap, but they were all relatively inexpensive which was a plus. I was fortunate enough to have a seat at the bar before the presidential debate, it got pretty crowded both inside and out. The open-air patio has a huge projection screen, and is covered and heated, so even in the fall, it feels very comfortable outside. Don’t think they actually brew on site, but rather, have it shipped over from the other location. Good beers, great pizzas, reasonable prices a nice combination for a terrific place to hangout.
