37 reviews for Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria
| jolomo (10), Atlanta, Georgia | | July 17, 2009 Very nice space and a good selection of area beers. They have a spent grain pizza dough available that is highly recommended. There’s a club upstairs with a slightly different selection of beers. | | phaleslu (86), Cincinnati, Ohio | | July 1, 2009 Excellent pizza and a ton of local and regional bottles and taps- Pisgah, Highland, Wedge, Foothills, and the rest are all represented. | | agl108 (26), Manayunk, Pennsylvania | | June 23, 2009 Next stop on Asheville bar tour. Nice old country feel to this place. Pretty much the entire draft menu is local NC beers. Also caught a good bluegrass band here. | | maltdog (51), Knoxville, Tennessee | | March 30, 2009 Pretty much identical to Barleys in Knoxville, except it’s quieter, has a slightly more attentive staff (all very… “organic”), and only 28 taps. Probably half or more of the draft selections were brewed in or near Asheville. Fancy printed beer list, so it must be a pretty stable lineup. I was surprised to see only the same two Highland beers that are available at home. Call before visiting to make sure they’re actually open. | | accpete (10), Tallahassee, Florida | | March 21, 2009 Great place to sample a wide range of NC beers on tap. Restaurant downstairs, upstairs more sporty, with darts and pool tables. Some variety in tap lists between floors, but overall a very nice selection. Haven’t had the pizza, but bar area was a great place for a casual evening with friends. | | dkachur (114), Charlottesville, Virginia | | March 14, 2009 Nice place to sample local beers. Nice beerlists upstairs and down. Nice people. Ambience is very open. Did not try food. Decent pricing. What follows is my writeup from cvillebeergeekl.blogspot.com. Barley’s Taproom has two levels. Downstairs is a more family friendly restaurant style, with food available. Upstairs is a bar with darts, pool tables, etc. There are two separate tap lists, but both are high in quality. On the downstairs tapped list I eyed the Foothills India Brown Ale, but opted to go upstairs for pints of Wedge Oatmeal Stout and Pisgah Brown Ale. Maybe the best draft list I saw in Asheville. | ucfknightscott (9), Casselberry, Florida does not count - explanation | | December 22, 2008 A great place to sample local North Carolina beers. Pretty much all of the local breweries are displayed, along with a lot of other solid beers. A cool place to and get decent food and sample a great local beer. | | OldGrowth (107), North Carolina | | September 22, 2008 Great place, I spent most of the evening before 08 brewgrass here. Not sure how old, but classic American building. High ceilings, green metal, White walls with lots of wood. I didn’t venture upstairs Bar is toward the back on the right side. Lots of booths & tables on first floor. Bar probably holds 20 - 25 people. Service was good, when he could the bartender would talk about the local brews with us. Beer selection heavy with western north carolina beer, Pisgah, French Broad, Highland, Catawba, other NC beer was Foothills, Triangle, Duck Rabbit. I split a small pizza with a friend and was perfect for two. Not really a value place, but fairly priced. Great night, definitely a must if in Asheville. | Riccardi50 (1), Montreat, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | May 4, 2008 I love this place. Some of the best pizza I’ve ever had and always have a great selection of local beers as well as imports. The beers are always rotating so you keep coming back to try more. Tons of bottles to choose from too. All the beers are listed on a menu with complete descriptions of what to expect if you order one. | Fiona (8), Chapin, South Carolina does not count - explanation | | January 27, 2008 May not be able to give it an honest rating given that it was a very cold and snowy night when we visited, just after New Year’s and there were few folks there. I really like the different Barley’s taprooms so very cool that they are all in wonderful old buildings with cultural/archetectural significance. Service could have been better the night we were there, but again ... timing could have had something to do with it. Will definately go back next time we’re in Asheville. Lots of nice local North CArolina brews on tap which, really, isn’t that what we’re looking for when we visit? |
