| Suttree (88), Knoxville, Tennessee | | November 30, 2009 The ambiance, such as it is, warehouse-esque, which actually kinda adds to the charm. Very much a DIY attitude here, with a makeshift stage and bar. The Bride had the sampler, I had the Rye-Hopper. All beers were fresh and tasty and the service was reasonably attentive without being overbearing. Cool place. | | Butters (150), Virginia | | October 30, 2008 This place felt like a cross between a barn and a country bar. The beers are a little step above average, and most all of them still have a ’home-brew’ quality to them. The lighting is so dim that it makes rating the appearances difficult. But The people are what make this brewery special. You can tell these guys really care about their beer. My waiter, Trip, wasn’t terribly knowledgable about the beers (he did know enough to guide me through their sampler), but was extremely congenial. What Trip lacked in knowledge, Chris, the assistant brewer, certainly made up for. He came in and answered all my questions. Very nice guy - Even hooked me up with a bottle of ESB to share with my co-workers in Nashville! I look forward to visiting them again. | | dchmela (52), Orlando, Florida | | September 4, 2008 Came here as part of a tour and thought it was the best place we went to. We had a small tasting with the head brewer (he was very patient with my home brew questions) and got to hang out, listen to a good band and sample some really good beers. A must stop while in Asheville. | | Nate (194), Indiana, Pennsylvania | | May 23, 2008 Stopped in on a Friday evening thought they were open until 9pm so made it just for last call - got a flight of their stuff and rated while standing at the bar and listening to a great band, Brushfire. Bought their CD on the way out. Enjoyed the wee heavy-er and irish stout and the altbier was pretty good. | | NYHarvey (124), New York, New York | | February 22, 2008 It wasn’t open when I was there, but they let me in to fill a growler. Small space filled with the brewing equipment and a small bar. Seems like it would be a cool place to hang. The Imperial Porter I got turned out to be a kick ass brew, I wish I would have bought more growlers of it. Neat place and worth a trip. | | dolemite77 (10), Maryville, Tennessee | | February 4, 2008 Interesting small brewery. They also have music and a tasting bar. You have to dig a brewery that features a disco ball. | | tronraner (100), Seymour, Tennessee | | December 24, 2006 In the Biltmore village... Interesting place. Very small area for seating pretty much seems to be in the middle of the brewery, with a stage for bands. A few taps are there, some of which are hard to find elsewhere. Very busy and chaotic when I was there. The bartenders were very friendly, though. | | NachlamSie (209), Tennessee | | December 23, 2006 Located near the Biltmore Estate, this brewery sports a small tasting room. The ambiance is quite homey, we went in December and Christmas lights adorned the brew kettles. An interesting bluegrass band was playing which added to the Asheville feeling. The actual tasting area has just a few seats and is easily filled on a moderately busy night. There were a couple brews available here that I haven’t seen anywhere else, but neither one of them was anything to be excited about. Strange that they offer a tour for 5 bucks, most everything is clearly visible from the tables. There is no real food here, just some kind of easily prepared burritos that I decided not to order. | | Jmichael (34), Asheville, North Carolina | | December 14, 2006 [ Updated January 19, 2007 ] This place is a jewel for micro-brewery lovers. Tasting room with live music, Knowledgable Service and great beer. | | brentfeesh (61), Gadsden, Alabama | | March 26, 2006 [ Updated September 16, 2009 ] I believe they had seven beers on tap the day I went. Good range of brews that were all drinkable. Small place for a quiet beer, minimal seating. Looked like they were setting up for a band later that evening (right in the middle of the brewing floor). Once I declined the $5.00 tour (as you could see everything from the tasting bar), they quickly lost interest in our group. Server was as nice as a snake but she slung the beer in my glass all the same. pp
I’ve given these guys a bump in score. After Brewgrass 2008 my opinion has improved greatly. their beers and their wait staff have imporved dramatically. Had a great time there this time and enjoyed their brews thuroghly. |
