| Gmku (16), Asheville, North Carolina | | November 19, 2009 Very decent downtown brewpub. A lot of dark wood, plenty of room. Food is mostly organic (maybe all?) and much of it, including the beer, is locally grown. I love the Guiness-marinated burger. Usually a good selection of beers, including some tasty seasonals, e.g., a double IPA and a dubbel. Unfortunately service is hit or miss, depending on how busy the place gets--and it gets quite crazy during summer touristy weekends. Best time to go for anyone local, I’ve found, is Tuesday night. The place is relatively quiet so the staff are relaxed and attentive, and the pints are discounted.
SIDENOTE: Got me some "Truth" this past Tuesday night and was absolutely floored. One of the best DIPAs I have ever tasted. Unfortunately, because of some state law perhaps, they serve it only in small pours. | | Triples (12), , | | November 16, 2009 Enjoying ourselves. "The Truth", a double IPA, is aaawesome. Hopped to perfection! The aroma hops and the bitterness hops are perfectly balanced with the malts. It’s got it all goin’ on. | | BeerandBlues2 (157), Colorado Springs, Colorado | | August 26, 2009 Nicely done "European" bar complete with Irish Folk bands and traditional Irish dishes. Oh, and they have beer. In addition to their beer, some nice guests were on tap as well. | | jolomo (10), Atlanta, Georgia | | July 17, 2009 Their IPA is a very nice beer. This is a great place to while away an afternoon but also fun at night if there’s a band playing. Food was pretty good. | | darn1207 (24), Tallahassee, Florida | | July 6, 2009 went here in the middle of the afternoon on a monday - so the ambiance is all relative. was really only looking for their highest rated imp stout, but they didn’t have it. tried the green man ipa, victory prima pils and founders dirty bastard on tap. service was good enough, but didn’t know much about the beers. no tv’s or distractions - just bar and beers - which was refreshing. don’t know about the food. | | phaleslu (86), Cincinnati, Ohio | | July 1, 2009 Had a couple drinks here last night in Asheville. Tried the porter and Irish stout, both were very good. Bartenders were a little slow. Irish band in the corner seemed to be jamming, not paying much attention to the crowd, which I liked since so many bands in other restaurants overwhelm the atmosphere. Nice place to have a drink and Green Man seems to make some good stuff. | | Nate (194), Indiana, Pennsylvania | | June 25, 2009 Had lunch here upon arriving in Asheville for the second time. The food was tasty and not overly expensive and the service was good. The beer selection focused on British and Irish style ales, and they were decent but not super. The atmosphere and ambiance fit right in with Asheville. With limited time, I would not choose this over a few other places, but I would go back eventually. | | agl108 (26), Manayunk, Pennsylvania | | June 23, 2009 Stop #3 on Asheville bar tour. Pretty standard brewpub offerings on draft. The pale ale and the IPA were pretty standard. Nice, relaxed place to have a beer. | | dkachur (114), Charlottesville, Virginia | | March 8, 2009 Located in the downtown area within walking distance of lots of other places, which is nice. The Decor is very woodland forest, which is to be expected. The place seemed a bit dirty but my sense of that was probably heightened when my nasty looking fish and chips came out. They hadn’t changed that grease in a LONG time. My server was inept and not very friendly. The beers were overall pedestrian with one or two that stood out a bit. I see I had a different experience than most here. Maybe I came at a bad time, but it was definitely my worst experience in Asheville. | | Butters (150), Virginia | | December 9, 2008 Pretty cool little pub. Definitely got the impression that this is a popular locals destination and not so much for the tourists. I really liked all the ’green man’ iconography throughout the bar. The beers were on the better side of average and even had a few standouts (their imperial stout was quite tasty). The dim lighting made rating appearance a little difficult, and it was rather noisy, but all around, both my wife and I liked this place. |
